Updated Version - 8/23/2012Syer-336 'M6 Variant' Final
The Syer-336-M6
Main sidearm of Vredden armed forces.
So yea, there was going to be more to it before I submitted it, but I suddenly got hit with a case of "not enough fucks given." Maybe I'll add more later. Maybe I won't. Either way, enjoy it.
Criticism and comments requested and appreciated.
All belongs to me.
EDIT: This thing is going to hit 1,000 views in under 24 hours. I have never had anything get that many views even remotely that fast. Tell me, where the hell are you guys finding this/coming from? xD

Overall
Vision
Originality
Technique
Impact
First, let's not kid ourselves. It is a 2d gun. While it does require skill to make beliveable firearm designs sans PMG, it is still a 2d firearm, by itself, without context.
It should be remembered that I'm assuming you want artistic critique, not a critique on your weapon design.
As far as vision and originality, that is above average. I beleive the ability to make a weapon that could pass as real does require vision. If you had displayed the weapon in a better way or a 3d way, I would have marked you higher.
For technique, that is probably your strongest suit considering contexr, and you should be commended for that. The textures are pretty good as well. You didn't stop at matte colours.
Impact, essentially, it would have been greater if the peice was in 3d

Well...I don't do 3D artwork. I do 2D. So saying that you would rate the work higher if it were in 3D is kind of like me looking at a person who takes photographs and telling him his work would be better if he animated them.
While I understand your point of view and understand that having something in three dimensions would in-turn give viewers a better understanding of the piece, that isn't what I was looking for in terms of critique. I'm looking for critique on what I have made for what it is and where I can make improvements, not on what medium my work should have been on.
I do appreciate the other criticism though and the praise given. Gives me motivation for making further work, I also do understand that I could have offered more before submitting it, however I was hoping for more critique on the actual design itself.
I'm grateful for your input though and while I do only work in two dimensions, I suppose giving different angles of view would give people a better grasp of the concept and will try to do so in the future. Better than any 3D work I could possibly push out.

Looks kinda like a hybrid between a UCP and those popular M1911A1 customizations. Any details? Weight? Dimensions? Caliber? Capacity?

Well, it looks badass, so if it's intended to be realistic but Exaggerated, then i'd say you did good...

The trigger guard shouldn't be that wide for safety precautions. First of all, cops and soldiers alike have to rest their fingers on it so they don't accidentally squeeze the trigger during, say, a training exercise and murder someone. And then there is the problem of two-handed shooting. Some guns have a trigger guard that is concave to fit someone's finger. I don't know if this is merely decorative or not, having never shot one in my life, but it would seem to me that the extra grip provides stability to the aiming gunman.
Not being able to see the other side, I can't really make comments about the ergonomics, but I can also say that such a long pistol must be heavy. Now I know this is a scifi gun (it's pretty blatant that this is meant to be awesome, which it is) but on the field people generally go for the lighter gun. But what am I saying? The extra weight on the front and the slanted grip scream "I'm low recoil" which is a very good thing. But like the comment below this says, the grip is a little low. The trigger is too tall. But this may also be a good thing-the over-sized space in between could easily accommodate a gloved finger.
Mixed bag, but it's still awesome.
Now I will take my opinions of someone whose studied too many firearms without actually firing them somewhere else and stop bugging you. Thank you and good day.

Nice. Spacious, oversized trigger guard; good grip angle and finger grooves, long barrel and sight radius.... Grip could be just a tad bit higher to help improve recoil control, but overall, it's a pretty nice design.
