N'aww, you guys got together on one adorable collab! It's so cute when ginormous critters act all cuddly n' affectionate, suddenly behaving like itty lap dogs! XD And I imagine they can only cuddle in the midst of a forest clearing as shown, in case he starts rollin' around, all giddy. Hikers, beware! 
Awesome drawing, and you're killing it with the coloring and background—so much detail and definition, and I still enjoy the colored lines you use. It has this soft, blended look which is super nice. Can't wait to see it fully finished!

;;A;; it makes me happy to "hear" you say that! I have zero experience with backgrounds...and as I was doing this, it felt like I was doing something wrong! (But I keep adding more to it. Like I'm now going to add flowers and mushrooms)

Don't beat yourself up over backgrounds. Believe me, I know how difficult the darn things are, especially with composition and perspective, two of the hardest artist things I know. o_O I think you did a great job, considering how much room a dragon takes up, and the little details you added (like the bark of the trees) help bring some personality to the scene.
