Wondercon 2011. Sunday.Coolkate and I were wandering Artist's Alley and I was spacing out and trying not to trip over my extra-long skirt when suddenly -- WHOA, PLUSH DAVE OUTTA NOWHERE. I had a huge flipout of nerdery and then Dream Jade and Junior Ectobiologist John popped up and it was aneurysm time.

This was what I wore, but in no way was it a finished product. It was more of a "sew yourself into fabric the morning-of" product. Needle, thread, and really shaky hands from not getting enough sleep. If I try this again (unlikely, because my hair is now Kanaya/Nepeta-length instead of Jade-length), I'd probably try to find a legitimate pattern a month in advance and invest in zippers or hooks. BUT the dress is now disassembled and because of how little work was put into it, I've got yards and yards of reusable sparkley fabric.

That was a bustly con! Somebody had actually passed me earlier (walking by really quickly) and dropped a fast "nice Homestuck dress" and I sort of stopped in my tracks when the words processed and was all sorts of excited and stunned.
But it was cool to meet you and friends! If a five-minute picture thing could be called meeting, that is.

man, it sure was! It was hard to navigate. We kept losing group members. Lunch and train rides were the only times I think we were all together!
Man, did you know I originally didn't even want to go say hi? I thought it would be lame to just say hi because you were dressed as 3 AM jade, because I didn't have another reason! But then my friends decided that was a great reason to go say hi so that's what we did. (that isn't a great story but it counts okay) I'm pretty glad it worked out that way. C:

I'm pretty sure nobody noticed that sly sleight of hand at the time (or Dave was just tooooo coooooool to pipe up) and I was thrilled to see an uncommon John cosplay. Wise Guy suits and god tier getups are all the rage now.
