Here's my part of our collab Β Now you just have to digitize it or what ever you plan to do ^_^ Heck you could probably even blott out my inferior drawing of Fireheart and replace her completely with her your awesome way instead. Either way I'm sure it'll be freaking awesome.Anyway the premise of this image is that Fireheart, who teaches young colts and fillies magic in Canterlot, is trying to give Azure Night, a captain of the guard, a lesson in magic. Azure's not very good at it despite being both a guard pony and a unicorn. All he's ever been good at is levitation which is pretty much lesson one. So to try and become a better guard he's taking lessons.
Fireheart: Magic comes within us, it's like our life-force. To use it you must reach down within yourself and find that strength within. Concentrate.
Azure: Hnnnnng...I'm trying...
Fireheart: Don't give up Azure. Find that spark deep down inside.

Yeah. He's pretty much a failure at combat magic, even for a guard. Makes you wonder how he became a captain. But thankfully he's the only one who's actually able to kick ass. Unlike Shining Armor and the other guard ponies.

It'll go into detail later in A Night's Tale since his inefficiency when it comes to magic will be explored a bit more in detail and how he compensates

But in a way I feel this isn't a huge handicap considering most would expect unicorns to rely more on magic than their physical fitness. They'd associate that with Pegasi or more likely Earth Ponies. And for the most part, Azure does fight more like an Earth Pony. But I'm giving too much away already

He's not very good at it. As a unicorn Night his training included needing to learn combat magic but he was just no good at it.

Like I said, all he's any good at is levitation which he uses on his swords. Even then a lot of times he doesn't really use them to their fullest potential with magic. He'll use them as decoys then rush in and use his own body to beat an enemy into submission. He kinda makes it up as he goes. Strategy isn't exactly his strong suit. Sure he'll have a plan, but that mostly involves "Beat the shit out of them". I mean in the middle of a fight he's more likely to grab a weapon in his mouth and use it that way than to use his magic. I'll be explaining this a bit more in A Night's Tale as it progresses but that's just a run down
