Recently my professor gave us Windows 8 developer preview and I decided to install it on our 8 year old Compaq laptop. With only 256mb ram and P-4 it functions pretty well. Internet works just fine even with flash. Ubuntu was slow and so was XP on this PC, boots in about 30 seconds. Not too shabby.the cat approves

I find it hard to believe that Ubuntu didn't run well.

well mainly because the wifi wouldn't work, so it had no internet unless I plugged directly into my router.

I totally will, but unfortunately, I will wait until the final release... In case of instability, Im still running Windows 7!

Yea, my laptop is mine but it's the only computer me/family has that I want to use... 2 others are slow, 10 year-old Windows XP comps, or my dad's Vista... and we all know that story, plus I can't use it anyway.

I'm not that surprised it would run W8. I had a ThinkPad T41 which ran Windows 7 like a charm and, if it would still in working condition, I bet it would run W8 as well.

well true, but I'm aware this is only a beta version and the real OS will have more background things going on and this PC nay not run the full version. If I had the money I would sure try it out anyways lol

heck yes! the sound isn't working too well but hey the internet works fine

for me only the Weather app has problems and the Finance one, they can't connect to my internet

the weather doesn't work for me either, actually only a few work but I think its because its out of ram or its still being developed.
