Description
Creating this on request from a new group working on FOE SFM animations. I am building a sprite bot.I did a bit more organic modeling than I had expected, but it's coming along. The hardest part should be over modeling wise.

Cannot wait to use this! Just needs some wings and more rust than a Chernobyl swing-set and you're golden!

Tbh the rust work will probably be the hardest part

You could... just colour it brownish. That would produce THE BEST results.

I always imagined them as ED-E with wings, and absolutely nothing past that. I think that'd be because I completely forgot what parasprites looked like. Since they're 'bots based on them, retaining a similar shape would make sense, especially considering they do pretty much look like eyebots anyway, only kinda, squishier I guess. Looks like a parasprite made of metal. It's cute.
Is it going to be as clean as this, or a big banged up or a little worn?

I plan on doing some wear work in Mudbox that fits within the limitations of a normal map. Thing like small dings and scratches, and then trying to paint it to show the detail better.

Ooh Mudbox is so fun. Can't really use it competently, but it's fun to mess with. I never was able to get it to do that thing Autodesk introduced where you could just have the model sent directly into Maya or Max when one or the other was open at the same time. Autodesk has always been ALMOST perfect for me, never perfect. Nothing to complain about, though.
I'll have to think of a scene to use it in before you've released it. I look forward to it <3

Might be a bit. Texturing and weathering is gonna be the hardest part. Lol.
I actually use FBX saves. I don't do the fancy thing.

I guess just go up to about eleven zillion polygons and depress/raise more or less random areas with a funky brush a little bit. Couple of bigger, softer ones in places, maybe? I dunno, I'll go beat some metal with both ends of a hammer and see what it looks like. PERFORMANCE ART.
Yeah, I'd use FBX saves too. Since they work on pretty much every program that would be relevantly related, it makes sense. The fancy stuff was always broken, but I'd try it out anyway, see if it works. It uh, never quite did. Nice idea though. If you could basically just switch from Maya to Mudbox and the model would already be there, that would save a little time. Maybe if some other company masters it, Autodesk will buy them out.

looking at the refrence photo. i think it's just a tiny bit too flat at the bottom. Though i don't know if that's intentional

There's supposed to be a turret mount there.
Also, I am taking a lot of artistic liberty since I don't have orthographic references. It doesn't have to be a 1:1 copy. 2D doesn't translate to 3D as easily as one would hope.

Heh, looking good so far. If you need help getting that reflective material to work in Source, shoot me a message. It's a bit weird to set up.
Also, could you shoot me a link to that group, please?
