just some real fast character concepts i thought id throw up here for the sake of it. i know ive been neglecting this account because of my Other Project but i have a thirst to pick some of this stuff up again, even if its just some short stories or some shitRelated content

good lord. i'm starting to hate my own jokes. horrible puns aside it's GOOD to see more ceta friends from you. I recognise that little scaredy looking porp down below from 'the escape'! or is she not the same one? big man is looking cool with his hunky sail fin. i like how you made their face markings different too, in terms of the lip markings and how they merge (or not) with the dark dorsal field.
if i may have one scientific nitpick (which feel free to ignore of course, cause character designs are a thing too): but technically speaking adult specs don't have those mouth-to-flipper stripes. only babies have them as a broad band of dark grey, which fades to a light grey line (like what the male has) and once they become adults it completely disappears. all the illustrations showing them with (black! no less) flipper stripes are unfortunately very wrong. just checked the ~70 specs photos i have and no adults with those stripies. but then again - if you like them the way they look THAT'S DOPE TOO CAUSE I LOVE THEM ANYWAYS β₯

THANKS. i was hoping youd chime in tbh because i know internet illustrations can be inaccurate when its a weird little known species like this and i trust ur brain way more than those. SO IM GLAD U SHOWED UP SO SOON. i might get rid of the stripe but keep some black on the fin just to make the values feel more balanced or whatever you wanna call it. improvements on nature and all that bunk
plus, UR TOTALLY RIGHT, it's the same whalet. BUT THIS TIME SHES HERE WITH HER DAD!

NO PROBS. oh yeah for sure the internet goes a little wonky when you get to the more obscure ceta species. it's when you start googling in portuguese and dig through personal facebook accounts that you get to the good stuff. but UR CUTE for trusting my noggin. actually lemme throw some spex photos your way for refs and stuff. it's interesting to see how the facial markings change with age. when young it's this huge dark smear all across their cheek and snout. and then the bottom portion fades until only the top remains, and then that turns yellow and slowly just... fades away.Β ohh and i love that it's her dad. GOOD LOOKS RUN IN THE FAMILY.Β
lol and i love that. improving on reality. NATURE but now AESTHETICALLY PLEASING. evolution, take note. they do have grey flipflops though so maybe that helps balance the design out too, colour wise?

I MEAN NATURE IS PRETTY GOOD AT DESIGN BECAUSE TBH ITS OUR WHOLE BASIS FOR WHAT IS AESTHETICALLY PLEASING, but every once in a while there's a thing that could be slightly improved if u just put a little finishing touch on it. just a lil dablet. or maybe like. take out the appendix.
OH SO I GOOGLING IN PORTUGUESE IS THE FUCKING SECRET THIS WHOLE TIME???? i have always wondered where the fuck you get all these actually good references from because i aint dont done see none of them NOWHERE.

i love how you just casually throw in a little sidenote on the source and nature of 'beauty' in our modern society. UR RIGHT THO. you'd make for a great god-secretary. you know, the one who reviews the animals right before they go into mass-production. 'but, sir, if we justΒ make this bit of feathers green too, then the overall colour composition much more balanced! it's only a small change!'
