First you have to start with an idea of what the game will be about and then you start with the concept art, you have to sketch the design of the characters and you keep trying with different designs and shapes until they get a "definitive" design wich you are satisfied with

Here theres more designs for the Beast and the Creature, for the Beast this is far from its definitive look, but for the Creature this is pretty much almost its definitive look it was a lot easier to come up with its design
