Description
So, I might post the steps I took to create this lovely little creation, but then again I might not. It all depends on the Internet and my free time. Also, this might be the last art you guys see for a while. Although there is more than enough inspiration here and my hands are almost literally twitching to create something, I do not have a mechanical pencil at this point, and, although I feel like a spoiled brat in saying this, I can't stand drawing with a regular old sharpen-as-you-go-pencil. The lack of precision's killing me.
But you don't want to hear all that. You guys want to hear about the art.
So, the other night at a party, I (sorta, not really, kinda) learned how to dance (some basic steps anyway). However, in the process of learning, there was one particular move which consistently gave me trouble. The move in question involved me first spinning in one direction, letting my partner spin, then me spinning again, and maybe another time in the other direction after that. However, on my second spin, I had a knack for turning in the direction opposite the one I was supposed to. I did eventually get better about not doing this (or at least recognizing what didn't quite feel right), but the fact that it happened at all and with such alarming frequency gave me inspiration to draw (don't ask why messing up on something repeatedly made me want to commemorate it with a peice of art, just accept that it did).
So yeah. There's the story of the painting. You're welcome.
I used my usual weapns here: .7 mechanical pencil for the sketching, Sakura Pigm Micron Pens(.005, .01, and .02) for outlining, Derwent Inktense Pencils for most of the color (I used Remembrant goache for his jacket sleeves and the white details, not to mention the chair), and a pinch of salt on the sky and city to try and create the texture of lights (it didn't work). All of this was done on sketchbook paper of some sort (I really really wish I had access to watercolor paper right now, I really do), and I definitely used a reference photo for the pose (though I did reverse it) and that jacket. I desperately wish I could have scanned it, but alas, not to be. A camera sufficed. Probably not going to get to scan it, I'm not keeping it, but hopefully I can find some matboard to mat it before I give it away (I'm not betting on it though).
