So, I am not exactly a fan of the Star Wars ST trilogy, for a variety of reasons.
Of the existing characters, Kylo Ren/Ben Solo (why the fuck is his name Ben?) is one of the most confusing ones, with a half-assed redemption arc, while also being a lesser retread of both Vader and Anakin Skywalker.

And while I'd love to go on about his messy writing, his design is not really much better. Besides painfully attempting to recreate Vader, Kylo has nothing really unique about him. Aside from the mask, he's just a guy in a black jumpsuit, with a lightsaber that restricts his own movements and that would be basically cut in the first duel with a competent jedi, due to how the crossguard is built

Hence, the redesign. One idea about Kylo that could've been expanded on in an interesting way is his obsession with Vader. With this design, the idea is that Kylo is not just obsessed with Vader, but with other Sith and their history and artifacts. His helmet and robes are now supposed to give off a more cultist vibe, being ancient memoribilia akin to KOTOR, while still recognizable as Kylo .

As for the lightsaber, the handle has been redesigned so that the cross-guard comes from the two sides splitting open. Not only can it now function as a proper broad-sword would, but Kylo would no longer cut off his own writsts when swinging it.
