Story:

After defeating Venom, Peter re-bonds with the symbiote to save his own life from the injuries he sustains during the final battle. He discovers that he cannot un-bond with it again without dying. With time running out, he desperately seeks out Professor Miles Warren, the successor of Connors research after his death. Peter asks Warren to clone him, to which he reluctantly agrees. The process would clone Peter’s body without the symbiote and transfer his consciousness to the new body. However, the delicate procedure goes wrong when the symbiote realises what is going on and makes the original Peter escape, leaving his clone alive but confused. The clone has all of Peter’s memories but does not know about the symbiote. As the original Parker becomes consumed by the symbiote, he is driven to insanity and believes the only way he can be free is if he finds his clone and kills him, becoming Carnage. The clone assumes the role of Scarlet Spider, dying his hair blonde and changing his name to Ben Reilly to avoid Carnage finding him. Carnage becomes a serial murderer, sucking the life out of innocent people to keep the symbiote from attacking him. This attracts Ben Reilly as he seeks to right his wrongs and stop his clone. This leads to many conflicts with Carnage which only seem to push him deeper into insanity. Eventually, Carnage attacks S.H.E.I.L.D headquarters, a threat which required Ben Reilly to unite with the Avengers to take him down finally.
