Description
This is a collaboration between a student and myself. It's 24 by 60 inches, oil on canvas. This particular student has been working in watercolour for almost a year, but decided to switch over to oil a couple of weeks ago. Glad she did, actually - I think she has a real knack for it. My job in this was to show her basic palette knife techniques, colour mixing to get the right effect, and texturing. I adjusted a few things perspective-wise as well, but for the most part, the student did the actual painting.
Instead of regular small palette knives (which would have been too small), we used slices of foam board to apply the paint. We used a picture from an old calendar as the basic reference and altered it substantially.

Wow that's big size. I bet that student is thrilled to have had some guidance in achieving this beautiful work. Good job for both teacher and student

Thanks! I was very pleasantly surprised by how this one turned out. I helped some on the boat, but the majority of the work was done by the student. It's a whopper - it's going to cost a packet to frame!

Thanks! Yeah, this one's pretty big. I built that canvas a long time ago and had it hanging around waiting for a good idea. When this student wanted to try oil, I thought, "Well, I'll just drag out the whopping canvas and see what we can cook up."

Well the painting idea definately suits the long canvas. I have some spare already made canvas's, one bigger than all the rest. I have no idea what to paint on that one. I want to do something spectacular, i just dont think i'm good enough.
Anytime.

Aww, you're too kind. Sometimes the trick to teaching isn't so much telling the students what I know, but figuring out what they're good at.

And also because you are sincere in your love for art and pets and you transmit that to everyone around you and of course specially your students.

Thanks! It was really fun to do - I rarely teach much oil, and hardly ever work with a large canvas, but I think we got pretty lucky on this one.

Thanks! It's difficult teaching oil because I'm not as comfortable with it as I am watercolour, but this particular student caught on quite quickly once I got her started.
