How to train you Dragon is definitely based around Scotland. From the author of the books basing the location on theΒ ScottishΒ Inner Hebrides Β islands and being inspiredΒ by the stories ofΒ Scandinavian Scotland . The films also used Scottish accents for the adults and music scores with Scottish influence, including the bagpipes. Vikings did effectively take over the British isles and other areas, so they weren't only in the Netherlands but it's an easy assumption to make.
Mr Peabody also said they were in New York living in a penthouse at the beginning of the film but they travel to various locations.
The Croods might be based in Doggerland, the land that sunk, as Neanderthal skulls have been found there and the mythical elements tie in with Atlantis, another land which also sunk. That one is just a theory though.

Road to El Dorado was not Columbian. That was all Mayan, and the Maya lived in southern Mexico and central America.
Also, HTTYD was inspired by a tiny island off the coast of Scotland that Cessidia Cowell would visit as a child.

Actually, "How to Train Your Dragon" would take place in Sweden. They are vikings, vikings are Swedish. So am I. And Sweden looks similar to the town/towns in HTTYD.
