I thought so too. The Amano piece from which this color scheme is based is my favorite of his.

I like Amano's artworks in general, his style is so unique. It's rather weird since just a few years ago I hated his drawings...

Like I mentioned to , I used the color scheme from this [link] but didn't realize that was Gerad's color scheme til now. Oh well, I prefer the Gerad color scheme, and I'm glad you like as well.

Huh. Maybe something got lost in translation during the game's development, and the "Gerad" sprite was originally supposed be Edgar's normal sprite and vice versa...

Then again, I choose not to question when Amano's artwork in no way reflects the in-game appearance of the characters. Hell, as a youth, I couldn't even begin to wrap my head around why in the original FF4, Rosa had white hair on the world map, blonde in the menus, and brown in battle.

I dunno; from what I've discovered about a year ago, the Figaro bros are not Amano creations but that of an artist by the nickname Soraya Saga [link] . She's most famous for being a codesigner of the characters from Xenogears, and if you've played that game you'll see the similarities b/w the Figaro bros and the Fatima dynasty. Anyhoo, her design had more the blue color scheme, but I preferred the Gerad earth tones.

Honestly, I never liked the sprite designs for the games before FF7; just compare Amano's design for Celes and her sprite for case and point. >_<

Well, as far as the earlier games go, I try to find some kind of comfortable medium between the in-game sprites and the concept art...like, when drawing Terra I use Amano's clothes, minus the weird chickenpox leggings, but use the green hair instead of blonde. (Satan will be ice skating to work before I draw her with blonde hair.)

I kind of agree about Celes, but I have to say, her Amano clothes remind me nothing of an imperial general, nor any military officer, for that matter. I always imagined the "leotard" depicted by her sprite as being, instead of nylon, maybe tough leather with metallic plating here and there, which in my opinion is much closer to being realistic battle-wear, which is why I opt for that over Amano's design...even if it does show off her legs.

As far as FF6 goes, though, I'm surprised how well most of the other characters follow their concept designs.
