Yes, Max is the suitable one. But Emmet became the prominent Lego character among fans since the release of The Lego Movie early this year.

I see... however, making him the central ambassador would kind of be pushing the movie into everyone's face more (since he is overrated and, I wouldn't say unfairly, but... he kind of has overshadowed other characters and candidates. Anyway, Lego choosing him to be the new minifigure-head would be a bit lazy). Plus, because he is also Warner Bros. property, meaning it would be difficult for Lego-Group.
I have nothing against Emmet, nor the film. However, I do want past and other Lego characters and themes (which is everything but The Lego Movie & Ninjago) to receive good recognition.
