I think reclining the seat all the way would actually work at the expense of a few feathers.

I rather pictured her folding them forward around herself, but yeah, she'd still probably lose some feathers.

well the key would be to not touch anything on the bottom of the wings. You sort of need those feathers or the whole aerodynamics of wings are screwed up.
Not that humans with bird wings are particularly aerodynamic, but meh.
Wings in general are not meant for tightly enclosed spaces. She's probably feeling some anxiety over that.
