Facing upwards, eyes closed, a little light from above, mouth relaxed, slightly open - gives me the idea of someone in a dark place catching some (sun) light after years or reaching a state of enlightenment that far away from mind selecting beams up there.

When I went with a totally black framed picture to my favorite printer the operator said: "One hint: this black is totally black, zero color, we call this >>shitted on<<" I simply replied: "That's why I'm allowed to push the camera's buttons and you the printer's."

The black frame means (for me): nothing to see here, just darkness, don't ask, don't explore, just hidden things, nothing for you, only fear. But like a teaser or appetizer there's some light, something floating on top of the night, inviting the daring to dive in.

So the black frame is the perfect surrounding for the face's expression and mood. Could be a sculpture inside a crypt on a tomb, facing towards a window (an illustration how minimalism and reduction of image content leaves space to open the viewer's mind or spark memory/ideas).

Interestingly I played a bit with tone of the light and depending on color temperature/ white balance it creates different impressions reaching from strong spotlight or searchlight (finding human remains) to underwater atmosphere (drowned).
