Pencil Drawing: Tomboy28" x 21" - Prismacolor Colored Pencils on Pastel Paper
drawn in 1994 - I took the photo 4 years earlier of my daughter, so she wasn't pleased to see this after it had won an Art Competition (it was on TV as a commercial, I was interviewed on the news...
edit: 09-03-08 - I finally got my New slide scanner working properly, so, here's the New Large Picture for your viewing Pleasure !

This is a great portrait It really has a classic feel.
It reminds me of kids book covers and such from grade school.
Also the imagery leaves a lot of room for story or metaphors for the viewers own adaptation, creating a much deeper experience.
The detail is fantastic and the composition is downright heartwarming, and the colors definitely inspire.
Great job, really, a fantastic piece.

pastel paper (in this case - Canson Mi-Teintes) has a tooth to it that allows layers upon layers of soft lead to build up GIVING MUCH MORE ROOM (oops, Caps Lock was on ) and ... where was I? .. oh yeah Giving more room for details

Cool! I love the composition with the figure filling the page with those props. Great background that does not detract any attention from the figure. Your proportions are spot on. You did a really good job of capturing the stance of the "tom boy," with a wonderful countenance to the face. You have a great range of values here to go with some really good palette choices. It's a sterling piece of work!
