Description lights up, curtains part, meet your villain protagonist.

he'll make you wish you were never born - and correct the mistake.

TWO PIECES IN ONE NIGHT! drinketh the wineblood of snowpanther kittens, summon the raven of Odin to pluck out thine eye for ultimate widsom! i need sleep
this took under an hour (most of it was done in 20 minutes before I spent a long time on minor crap) which is a good indication for me that i am getting a natural feel for how light works. still some places it's all bad, but i'll learn those too, and when i do: watch out world - the sick, twisted innards of my mind will be set loose upon you.
this is the first piece for this project i've done in a while - got another one on the shelf, long-awaiting the lazy co-creator's commentary and critique to be fixed and posted.

Lol, I've spent over 10 minutes trying to say something about this piece. The only thing I could keep was "Wow, very nice.", so, I'm just going to leave it at that before my head explodes in a fit of trying to think up some words. Hitting send now...

i like the curtains, but i'm not sure about the arms. when i view it in a smaller mode something seems off. the left wrist bothers me. maybe it's just the foreshortening, who knows.
love the top half, though!

TheAstro In reply to kungfudugong [2007-09-06 08:39:01 +0000 UTC]

agreed, hate the arms - the wrist on the left (his right) is bad, it's where I stopped sketching quickly (got up to do something else and came back - augh!) and thus lost its cohesiveness to the lighting scheme i think. and i think the arms would've been ok if i didn't make the head too big - always make the head too big. thanks for the crit.

where's your 4,000 piece? HUH?!

"curtains part" - outstanding. Which tools did you use?

oh man, got some good ones to use together for a speedsketch: primary: Sumi-e/Thick Blossom Sumi-e (main sketch, tweak the size until you can get a good thick 'filling' smear if you press hard, and a nice fine line if you use a light touch *important - set the color to a light-medium gray to get a good building darkness from repeat strokes); Pencils/Cover Pencil (for white - areas of thinnish light, like clothing folds, finger segments, jawlines); Oils/Flat Oils (size ~ 20, small enough for doing edges and thick enough to color in medium areas of light patches. usually i use it for light areas - sensitivity is important to get good blending effects with this one); Airbrushes/many (the Fine Tip Soft Airs are good for general shadowing, and if you make the smallest one the right size, you can do ultra-fine stuff with it - like the slits of his eyes* *also can be done with a really thin flat oils brush); Blenders/Flat Grainy Stump (in a speedpaint like this, you probably want to use blenders as little as possible, but any time you need to shift a bit of light around or reshape an object's edge, try using different sizes of the Flat Grainy Stumps and also the Just Add Water tool [I have made a variant of this tool so I have one big and one small].)
