Description
Owners of traditional PCs and laptops, Surface PCs or Pocket PCs running Windows 8 can today upgrade to Windows 8.1 for free! If you're still running Windows 7 or Windows NT 7.0, you'll have to pay, and if you're running Windows NT 5.0, Windows XP, NT 6.0 or Vista, you might as well get a new computer. Why should you upgrade to Windows 8.1? Not only does it run even faster, but it's got the all new Microsoft Internet Explorer 11, better compatibility with Mac OS 10 and Apple Portable devices, and the refreshed Outlook Express and Windows Media Player. At 3.3 gigabytes, it may take some time on a 56K V.90 connection, but if you have a T1 connection, it shouldn't be a problem.
Personally I recommend getting the new Microsoft Surface PC with Windows 8.1. It's got a whopping THREE USB ports, a 56K V.90 wireless dial-up modem (rumour has it the Surface 3 will bump this up to V.92) and better Microsoft Facebook and MSN Tweet integration.
They're touting this as an Apple MacPad killer, and I'm inclined to believe them. Download it today at windowsupdate.microsoft.com/windows/windows8-1!

For some reason, Windows 10's dialog box reads version 10.0, but the file versions (according to Process Explorer) read as "6.3.10240.xxxxx" or "6.3.10586.xxxxx".

Actually, 8 is NT 6.2 and 8.1 is NT 6.3.
