The guy in the front, jared, seems like the odd man out here. What exactly is his nature in relation to the story?

Here's the synopsis of the story (spoilers might follow 
Junkie rockstar Jared Smith wakes up to a different ceiling inside a run-down hospital totally unaware of what happened at his band's celebration party.
Somehow things are not at all as it seems.
The moment he steps out of the hospital doors his life drastically changes as he discovers that the city of Tshwane/Pretoria has been laid to waste and he's caught in the crossfire of a war that has been secretly waging for as long as two thousand years.
Basically he's the only human in the story

Reminds me of another concept of mine, scrapped it. It involved the military harnessing the lycanthropic virus and trying to use it a performance booster. They screw up, make so that not only can you get it through a bite, but as your body is being permeated by the virus, before you change, you infect everyone you come within 2 yards of.
Main characters volunteered to get the shot, government levels the city they're in, blames it on hostilities to the north (It's set during a campaign. They get the injections in the field) Thousands die, and it's all covered up. The main character barely makes it out, but the trauma of the event wipes out his memory for a few months.
Eventually the government tracks him down in order to snuff the infection, but he escapes, turns all wolfy, and brutally murders his pursuers (Planned that scene so you were put in the shoes of the guys he was stalking and killing).
Then he goes on a rampage and without ever becomeing the ravening monster werewolves are in movies, he destroys an entire city and spreads the virus. Pretty bleak ending was in the works on that one.

man, that sounds very intense and intricate... why did you scrap it?

Some of the logistics where odd. I only have a vauge working knowledge of the military. I think I might pick it back up again, but the writing I'd done so far, while making a cool script for a movie, just didn't like me. Plus it was on paper, and paper hates me.
I have a lot of ideas like that in my head still, just waiting for the right time to field them.
Actually I particularly like this one idea I have for a supernatural police force. The basic concept sounds cliched, and campy, but the details were intensly depressingly horrifying. Main character is esentially the worst human being to ever be given a badge. The guy likes to torture people, and they give him unlimited freedom to do whatever he wants to keep the peace.
But all those ideas have to wait, I'm already working on two webcomics (writing so it's not a big deal for me). And I don't exactly want to start up another project until part one of Fenrir is done. And then I've still gotta start work on Mobile Warrior Gundam (Started off as Mobile suit gundam: Raharu blues, But I changed my mind recently> I want to go with the artists idea first)
