Steve gave Tony a little shove towards you, “I found him pouring whiskey in your tea Doctor (L/n).”

You pressed a hand over your eyes, “It’s alright Steve. I told him he could.”

The super solider gave a questioning yet disappointed frown, “Doctor (L/n)-“

You sighed, “How many times have I told you it’s just (F/n). Nobody’s called me Doctor anything in years.”

Steve opened and closed his mouth a couple of times, “Alright (F/n). May I ask why you’re drinking on the job. If Stark is becoming a bad influence-“

You chuckled, “I wasn’t actually going to drink it Cap. I just needed him out of the lab for a minute. Nothing to worry about.”

Steve grinned, “I shouldn’t have doubted you (F/n).”

You had been assigned to monitor Steve’s vitals once he was out of the ice and after a brief period of fangirling over him the two of you had become friends. He never judged you for what you were or treated you any different and you liked that. It was refreshing.

“It’s alright Steve. Thanks for keeping an eye out for-“ you were interrupted by Tony poking you with his shock pen, just as he had been earlier when you kicked him out of the lab, “You promised you would stop that.”

Tony smirked, “I had my fingers crossed.”

“He did.” Bruce confirmed and you rolled your eyes, flinching slightly as he poked you with it again.

Steve had a deep frown on his face as he stepped forward to growl, “Do you have a death wish Stark?”

“It’s fine Steve. It’s not the first time he’s done it and it certainly wont be the last. I can handle it.”

Tony poked you again, “I thought Banner had a handle on it but you're so calm you put him to shame. How do you do it Flame Princess? I mean you were seething when you punched Fury and all he got was a little wind.”

Steve gawked at you, “You punched the Director?”

“Why does she have to have control?”

“Yup. Right in the face. She’s got a mean right hook.” Tony confirmed before answering Bruce, “Her powers are rooted in her emotions. Anger, happiness, sadness, you name it.”

You moved away from Tony just as he was about to poke you again, turning your back to the trio, “He deserved it.”

“I’m surprised at you (F/n). Questioning superiors is one thing but hitting them…” Steve scolded.

You rolled your eyes, “He broke the only promise he ever made me Steve. He’s lucky he only got punched.”

Tony poked you again as Steve began a small rant about respect for rank and trust and Bruce could see you were starting to get annoyed but you still remained calm, ignoring both men as you continued with your work.

This went on for a good fifteen minutes longer, with Steve scolding you and Tony poking you in different places to see if he could get a reaction, and Bruce was impressed. You were outwardly calm and able to quietly chat with him as the two of you continued with your work.

It wasn’t until Coulson walked in to ask you if you wanted to get some food that you finally lost it and it wasn’t even you Tony poked. On a whim he smirked, offering, “Well that’s not going to work but what if I poke lover boy here,” as he shocked Bruce’s side.

“Knock it off Tony!” you screeched, your eyes flashing a bright shade of pink, and he was suddenly flung into a wall across the room.

You went pale as everyone stared at you and you quickly went to Tony’s side, “Oh my god Tony. I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to- I just- Are you ok?”

He offered you a goofy grin, “That was fun. If I poke Bruce again will you-“

You punched his arm, a small wind whipping up to rustle your hair, “Damn it Stark! I could have killed you.”

Fury’s voice sounded over the labs com, “Agent (L/n). Safety protocol beta. Now.”

“Fan-fucking-tastic!” you growled, throwing you hands in the air as Steve gasped, “Language!”

“Save it Spangles,” you snapped, pushing past him with your little cloud of wind accompanying you.

“What’s safety protocol beta?” Tony asked, getting up from the floor. Bruce had no idea, Steve shrugged, and the three of them looked to Coulson who sighed, “Safety protocol beta is the Cage. Should she lose control she is to report there for a twenty four hour period of surveillance.”

“You mean you lock her up like some sort of monster.” Bruce seethed, a slight hint of green creeping across his skin.

Coulson gave him a hard stare, “Unless you’re looking to join her Dr. Banner I suggest you calm yourself. The protocol is for the protection of the ship and the lives of those it carries and while I may not agree with it I’m afraid I can’t argue against it either.”

“Can we see her?” Steve wondered, feeling guilty that he’d contributed to the events that caused you to be punished.

“I think she would like that very much Captain Rodgers and Stark I expect you to apologize.” Coulson demanded as he addressed the two slightly shame faced men, Steve more so than Tony.

He turned to give Bruce a small secretive smile, “You should go as well Dr. Banner. Just like with you, the person you once knew is still there underneath it all maybe you could help bring her back.”
