Bruce stayed with you, catching up and reminiscing a bit, and then he was called away back to the lab. You stretched out on the floor, looking up at the ceiling as you hummed, deep in thought. You missed Clint. He could always pull you out of what you called ‘the Cage funk’ and he didn’t mind pissing off Fury to spend more time keeping you company.

You sensed Natasha’s presence before you actually saw her, casually stating with a sigh, “I’m quitting Tash. As soon as this whole ‘The earth is in peril from some horned idiot’ thing is over… I’m out.”

She sank down next to the glass where you were laying, “You’re kidding right? Where would you go?”

You thought about it for a second, “I hear Norway is nice… maybe Australia.”

She nodded, “You think Fury will let you go?”

“Not entirely. No. But he certainly can’t keep me here anymore.”

“And Banner?”

You rolled to your side so you could look at her, propping yourself up on your elbow, “I don’t know. We love each other still, that much is obvious, but at the same time we’re each afraid to hurt the other… and he hates himself. I suppose I feel the same way… can we really be in a relationship where both people hate themselves? That’s just asking for trouble.”

You flopped back to look at the ceiling again, “The only thing I know for certain is that I’m quitting. Maybe Bruce had the right idea when he went off somewhere remote and spent his time helping people.”

Natasha lips twitched into a slight frown, she would never admit it but she didn’t want you to go, it was nice having you around to hang out with when Clint’s antics got to be too much. You were her best friend but she understood why you wanted to leave. You huffed, “How long have I been in here? I feel like I’m going insane.”

“It’s been around 10 hours now.”

“Can I convince you to let me out? I’m starving and my clothes are soaked,” you whined, waving your hands around above you.

She chuckled, “You know I can’t but I think I know someone who can.”

Your eyes lit up as you sat up to face her and she pressed her finger to her Bluetooth, “Hey Stark, you figured out how to open the Cage yet?”

The answer came in the form of the giant glass door swinging open and you were quickly through it, grabbing Natasha’s hand, “Tell Stark I’ll thank him properly later. Right now I need food.”

The two of you stopped off at you room and you yanked on your suit, no one questioned you when you were in your suit, they normally just steered clear, so you would get away with walking the halls with out questions from those who knew you should be in the Cage. You loosed your hair so it could dry, letting the locks fall around your face and on your shoulders, and put some make up on your face at Natasha’s insistence, to play up your BAMF vibe she claimed.

You made your way to the mess hall without incident and she went to find a place to sit while you grabbed your food. You found her at a table with Cap, Tony, and Bruce, and gave Tony a quick kiss on the cheek as you slid into the open chair next to him, “Thanks for rescuing me Terminator.”

He pressed a hand to his cheek, “I get you out of fourteen more hours of living in a glass case of emotion and all I get is a kiss on the cheek?”

You smirked, leaning over to flick his ear, “Do I need to remind you that your shock pen and can do attitude is what landed me in there in the first place?”

He tilted his head, “Point taken.”

Steve was frowning at the two of you, “Wait… You let her out Stark?”

Tony gave the super soldier an unamused look, “Duh, Capsicle. We couldn’t just leave her in there.”

Steve looked at little distraught and you giggled, “It’s ok Cap. I’ll deal with Fury if he catches me.”

A silence fell over the table as you ate your food and then you slumped to lean your head on Tony’s shoulder with a yawn. He nuzzled into your hair, wrapping an arm around you, “You tired, Icicle?”

You sighed, “Raining always takes it out of me.”

Natasha was watching Bruce’s fists clench and unclench under the table as he watched you and Tony and was about to say something as a green started to creep up his neck but you poked him with your foot before she could, “Stop that Bruce.”

His eyes met yours as you pulled from Tony lazily to lean so you were on his shoulder instead, “Better?”

He wrapped an arm possessively around your waist as the green disappeared, “Yes.”

You enjoyed the contact with him that you were missing before, intertwining your hand with his. It didn’t really matter what this was you realized, it only mattered that after years of feeling like something was missing you could feel whole again. You were drifting off into a peaceful sleep when Coulson’s voice cut through the quiet, “(F/n), you might want to make yourself scarce. Fury’s on his way over.”

You didn’t open your eyes though you could feel Bruce tense and Cap was already babbling about how much trouble you all were going to be in, Tony adding in to tease him for being a goody two shoes, “Consider this my resignation Phil.”

The table fell silent as Coulson murmured, “You can’t be serious (F/n)…”

“Deadly. As soon as we save this sorry excuse for a planet, I’m gone.”

“I’m afraid I can’t allow that Agent (L/n).” came Fury’s voice from behind Coulson.

You sat up to look at him properly, “I’d like to see you try and stop me.”

You and Fury had a mini stare down before he got a message through his ear piece and barked out some orders, “We’ve located Loki in Germany. Romanova, Captian, Stark, suit up and take a jet to retrieve him.”

You stood with the others, “I’m going.”

Fury glared at you, “No you are not.”

You set your jaw, “I’m going. We have no idea what we’re dealing with and I can help.”

The man stared at you for a moment and then turned to stalk off, “Captain, I expect you to make sure she comes back.”
