What better way to cool off on a hot day or to simply kick back and relax after extreme candy-coded racing than the classic summertime favourite hang-out spot known as the swimming pool? I think the Sugar Rush racers are no exception to that!

This is Vanellope’s royal private pool at her castle. While humans have to swim in chlorinated water, her massive pool is filled to the top with blue raspberry cola. The pink strawberry wafer deck was leftover from her princess programming and she’s planning on getting the whole thing remodeled with a more in-taste chocolate wafer finish. She regularly invites the racers over for pool parties, and each of them knows just how to get in on the action!

For this Kids Bein’ Kids sketch, I knew that I didn’t just want to draw each kid behaving as they naturally would when brought to a pool. I wanted to include every prominent object and element I could think of that you would expect to find in those classic pool scenes we have seen for years in comics and movies. Big or small, I think I crammed them all! Floaties, beach ball, mask and snorkel, noodle fights, buffet, cool sunglasses, stylish sandals, water guns, the girl wearing the big sunhat, the lounging girl getting pissed from being splashed, the boy who can’t help but stare at the cute girl in the bikini…the item list is stacked. Did I miss anything? Let me know in the comments ‘cuz I may draw another.

Notice also that I gave everyone a unique swimsuit. Some are harder to see than others (if at all), but everyone's suit is different. This achieves variety, but it also reflects his or her personality in a subtle manner such as the more playful girls who wear the ruffled, childish-kind of suits, and the more confident girls with the slightly more revealing 2-pieces.

And in traditional Sugar Rush fashion, I had a blast ‘candifying’ everything I could. Twizzler noodles, gumball beach ball, and life savers that are literal lifesavers are just some of these inventions. That’s a reflective candy wrapper that Taffyta is trying to tan with on her popsicle stick chair. And Candlehead is using inflatable sponge cake water wings and a donut inner tube to stay afloat in order to keep her candle from getting wet.
