A pic drawn by one of my absolute favorite artists here on DA- The one and only Mark Brooks.To me, his style is a hybrid between Joe Mad! and the legendary Arthur Adams (two big reasons why I am a full-fledged comic book geek!)
The thing that also makes this pic outstanding is the fact that it's from Age of Apocalypse. So it's all the original X-Men with a different twist. If you've never read the storyline, I highly recommend it!
Anywho, this is my entry for Mark's color contest. If you really like it, be sure to vote for it when Mark posts the voting poll in his journal!

I voted for you. I hope you win, because this is a hell of a coloring job. The sickly shade of purple you used on the sky was a nice touch; I thought it went well with the apocalyptic theme.

No doubt! I was pretty surprised when the wife told me what my b-day present was! I voted in both journals! I am such a dork. Your's really is the best I think. I am not feeling number 3, although it appears to be a fav, and Spydamans is way too sharp. YA did good! I, on the otherhand, SUCK and didn't even get the flats finished! Grrrrr.

Just stopping by to let you know I've voted for this one in the contest. Absolutely fantastic job, you've given this piece an excellent sense of depth and structure with your color composition and then added a ton of nice detail on top of it. I'm in awe here.
I didn't even think about attempting this myself, just the thought of doing the flats made my head spin.

May I ask how you create the glowing light look for the fire as well as other areas? I've never figured out how to approach something like that.

It's basicly another layer on top of the finished pic set to screen and filled with black...
then I used mainly the airbrush (yellow and red for the fire, pink for Jean Grey's power, etc.) and some guassian blur.
