Description
Here, we have Edward taking a late-afternoon nap on a hammock his wife, Sophia, an Alolan Ninetales, crafted for him. On his chest is one of their two adopted children, Ariel, a young mouse that he rescued and adopted (along with her little sister, Rebekah) after catching her trying to steal food from his den to feed herself and her starving sister. She thought she was going to be lion food after getting caught, but Edward is a noble and kindhearted king who desired to show the little creature mercy and love than punishment. He marries Sophia about seven months after that, and now they are more of a complete family. Sophia is also kindhearted and generous, and she loves making things for her husband and little rodent children. Seeing that her husband works so hard flying around and making sure their domain is running smoothly, she made him this hammock near the opening in their chamber so he could be comfortable lying in the warmth of the afternoon sun. He was skeptical at first, not knowing how his wings would be accommodated, but she had made slits in the fabric for them so he wouldn't have to lie on top of them and damage them (which is why they are not shown here; they are under the hammock and folded under his back). He enjoys the hammock, and invites a tired Ariel to join him on it. I imagine this being in late summer of 1821, where the sun usually tires one out by the afternoon. I also picture Sophia and Rebekah over in the kitchen, and Sophia teaching her about different foods, and how to cook them. I actually want to draw those two together in the very near future doing just that. I can picture Sophia stirring something they're going to eat for dinner later, and Rebekah making a mess and getting sugar or flour everywhere. Sophia giggles as this happens, even though she's going to have to give the mouse another bath now. At this time, Edward and Sophia don't have any biological children, but their first child, Desmond (Alolan Vulpix) will be around a little over a year from now in December of 1822. I aim for this family dynamic to be sweet and innocent, and I hope that come across clearly. The ages of the characters here are 28 (Edward), 19 (Sophia), 8 (Ariel), and 6 (Rebekah). Edward is a Scyroar, which is a fusion between a Scyther and a Pyroar. I emphasized Pyroar's traits since I consider myself better at drawing and designing mammalian creatures than insects and bugs. Edward and Sophia are also Edgar's grandparents; Edgar is one of the main characters of my Camp NaNoWriMo story that I recently finished, "Treasure Town: 1904."

Anyways, the shading took me all morning, and I'm still not 100% satisfied with it. I guess the only way to get better is to just keep working at it! This is also my first piece of personal art in over a month

Oh, and I realized I forgot to include Edward's little marriage band he wears around his right wrist. That's something I use as a replacement for wedding rings since animal and Pokémon hands are not suited for rings. It's nothing major, but I'm still annoyed at myself. We'll just say that he set it by his bed to keep sweat from getting on it (since it's a hot day. It wouldn't be hard to draw back on him, but I've already been working on this for hours straight, and I'm just not in the mood to go back to it right now XD
