(This was completed in mid-July, but I'm just sharing it now.)
This is the completed first panel of the comic I wanted to do, but no longer have the motivation to finish. For one, it's just far too daunting for me right now, and with everything else I'm trying to do, working on it would just be too much of a burden. With that, I'll just submit this very first panel. I got halfway through the second one, but realized then this was going to be much harder than what I was ready for.
Here is the narrative:
The Polessum pictured here is named Michelle, and she is seven. She is rolling this orange along back to her home where she lives with her little brother, Victor, a four-year old Rattata who's much too afraid to venture outside their comfy little den. However, a big, mean bully plants his foot right in front of the orange and stops Michelle. He's the one pictured here:
She pleads in vain for him to leave her alone, and he obliges...after swiping the orange and devouring it himself; peel and all. Being so much smaller than him, she flees and doesn't fight back. She hides in a bush and cries, scared and upset. She and her brother haven't eaten anything in a long time, and are starving. However, a kindly Groudent finds her and asks her why she is crying. She explains to her the problem, and she helps her find more food to take back home. Michelle thanks her repeatedly before heading back with the food. At home, they share the food and are filled and content. The two live by themselves; their parents having died at sea due to sickness during their migration to this island. Victor, being very young and naive, keeps thinking they'll come back any day now for them, but Michelle knows better. Even when she tells him (with a heavy heart) they won't come back, he refuses to believe her.
Overnight, as the children sleep, a spider creeps into their den and bites Victor. He wakes up crying, not knowing what happened, and Michelle tries to inspect his wound through the darkness. It doesn't appear serious at first, but when inspected by the Groudent who helped them the day before, she is horrified. She informs Michelle that the spider's bite was poisonous, and will kill Victor in about a week if not taken care of soon enough. Groudent suggests they go find the antidote and bring the ailing Rattata with them, but Victor, who is still scared of the world outside their den, refuses to go, leaving his sister and Groudent in a tight spot. Michelle insists on finding the antidote and bringing it back herself since she is nimble, and Groudent offers to stay and protect Victor since she is stronger. She tells Michelle where to find the berries that will cure her brother, and she hastes away as fast as her little feet can carry her.
Four days later, Michelle has the berries in possession, and is almost back home with three days to spare. However...she is stopped again
by that bully...and he's hungry for the berries she's carrying. She pleads with him to let her pass by just this once because her little brother needs them, and he'll die if he doesn't eat them soon. Sadly, he is uncaring and grossly selfish, and tries to snag them. She cries out for help, and tries desperately to fight him off, but it's no use. She watches helplessly as all the berries disappear into his mouth and are quickly gulped down. In a blind rage, she begins attacking him in a flurry of slashes and scratches. It takes him a while to restrain her, and he tries to think of a plan to get rid of her so she won't bother him again. She is still in tears; throwing accusations of murder at him. He keeps telling her to shut up, but she can't, and won't.
"Wh-why would you do this?!" She cried.
"It's just food! I'm sure your brother will be okay!" He growled heartlessly.
"He won't! There's poison in his body, and it'll kill him now because of you!"
"Oh come on, I've been bitten by bugs before, and I turned out fine."
"That's because you're bigger; my brother's much smaller, so if he gets bitten by a bug, it'll be much worse than for you!"
"Well, I'm sorry e got bitten then, but it's not my fault he chose to sleep where he could get bitten."
"Mister?" Michelle asked him, trying to calm down a little. "...do you...care about anyone?"
"Yeah, me."
"Besides yourself..."
"Uhhh...not really. I have no friends or family here, so I just take care of myself. Why?"
"What would you do if you had a little brother or sister who got sick and was going to die?"
"I guess...I'd try to help them..."
"How would you feel if I stole the food you were going to give them and ate it without caring about your sibling?"
The Polebite saw where this was going, but felt too prideful to say anything. Michelle picks up on his silence.
"Admit it...you would react like me. It's easy to make everything about yourself when you have no once to care for, but you know deep down that if someone depended on you to survive, you'd give everything for them..."
"I would...I can't deny that." He replied, starting to feel compunction.
"You may not know my brother, but he has a soul like you do. His life matters as much as yours, and despite what you've done, I would never wish his fate to fall on you..." She sighed, wiping away another tear. "He'll probably die in a few days, but now that I can't do anything about it...I just hope I can try to make his remaining time a little better somehow..."
A day later, while Victor's health is quickly deteriorating, and the Groudent is becoming more and more worried about him, and if Michelle is on her way or not. Eventually, she shows up with Polebite, who is helping carry the berries for her. He had helped her traverse the island again for the berries at a much faster rate than she was able to by herself, and returned with them with two days to spare. She gives Victor the berries to eat, and his health improves, and he lives after all. The Polebite had also been changed, and was no longer the bully everyone feared.
The End.

D:
Comics are TOO HARD, and I don't have the patience to finish this one. I'll settle for just telling stories with minimal visual accompaniment
I have been thinking about doing a writing this year during November in place of NaNo (I haven't done it in three years), and maybe it's something you could do with me. I've been thinking about writing a small poem each day during that month, and perhaps you could do it too to get more writing in. I think it'd be great for us

I've also mainly been doing prose, but it could still be a fun exercise Perhaps we can just do haiku though since those are very short. I did a haiku thing like this in Feb 2014, and it turned out to be really enjoyable.

i've done haiku a few times. i like making structured poetry sometimes, but usually i prefer free verse bc i'm not smart or creative enough to figure how to say what i want when i have to use a certain amount of syllables xD

Actually, I learned that when I did NaHaiWriMo (National Haiku Writing Month), the rules for the syllables aren't strict like commonly thought. I'll link you that journal I put my haiku in, and there's a link that describes what a haiku is, and dispels the idea that it must be 5-7-5
NaHaiWriMoDuring the month of February, I will be participating in NaHaiWriMo; a writing challenge where one writes one haiku a day every day in February. If this sounds interesting to anyone else, here's the website: https://sites.google.com/site/nahaiwrimo/
I'll try to post the day's haiku here each day, and perhaps they can be good launching pads for future drawings.
