These birds are sexually dimorphic. The females will have bright green plumage all across their body whereas the males will have a darker shade of green across their body with yellow feathers across the face and a red horizontal band at the base of their neck. The Juveniles have brown irises and will generally resemble the female birds. Whilst overall the birds conservation status is listed as Least Concern their status has been listed as threatened in the state of Victoria, this is partially due to extensive logging in early 2005 at the Barmah State Forest which resulted in 60% of the nesting colonies/habitat of the Superb Parrot being lost.
