"Annoucing her royal highness, Princess Twilight Sparkle!"I think the best way to develop Flash's character and make Flashlight canon would be for Flash to be assigned Twilight's bodyguard. That is, if the writing staff learn to handle romantic relationships before attempting that. Somehow, I doubt they can. Still, a guy can dream.

They may have been planning on developing him further, but since the Bronies were so hateful of him stealing their waifu, it seems he was made into a background character instead. But we did see him a in a few episodes. He gave her a smile when he and the other guards arrived with Cadance and Shining Armor in one episode, and announced Twilight's arrival in another. There was also a deleted scene in EQG: Forgotten Friendship where it looked very much like he was checking out Twilight's backside when she walked past him (but not Celestia or Luna) followed by a humorous reaction from Sunset as she recognized him as the pony version of the Flash she knew from the human world.
It's also theorized that he's a descendant of Flash Magnus due to both being pegasus, having a nearly identical appearance, and both sharing a name and similar occupation (similar to the Apple family soaring family names and occupations).

Seriously though, if Twilight is going to be a Princess living in a Castle, she will need some servants to keep it clean & guards to defend it, Flash should so get a transfer permit to Twilight's Castle, and DHX should get a writer who has experience making good love-ish stories in cartoons, cause if Twilight ever was to get in a romantic relationship with anypony, I'd rather it be with Flash Sentry than anyone else.

It would've been great if they develop him a bit more then just make him her love interest, doubting they would do that though. I hope that they can develop their relationship a bit more as the episodes go by and get more cameos

Looking at the preview for the Comic-Con S5 finale, one can see that Twilight's castle has some serious safety problems. Having at least one guy around to prevent the princess' enemies from invading her home could go a long way.
If only there was some kind of underused character begging for a chance to shine that could fit that role...
