Description Aww, shipping. You simply can't avoid it in a fandom. If you're the kind of person who's searching for every single piece of Super Mario fan fiction on the surface of the Internet, you'll notice that pretty much every possible combination has been made, no matter if it's straight or gay/lesbian. Here's those that particularly stand the test of time.

LUIGI x DAISY: First introduced in Mario Tennis, then hinted in Melee and Mario Kart Wii, this pairing is one of the favourites in the Mario fanbase. It's also very interesting to see how diametrically-opposed characters can work out as a potential couple (Daisy is brash and tomboyish, Luigi is shy and a bit of a punching bag).

WARIO x MONA: Wario rarely gets paired (seriously) with anyone. If there's one that stick out the most, though, it's probably this one, which seem to work alright. In the WarioWare games, Wario and Mona work with the same goals in mind, and seem to have some kind of chemistry. The apparent age gap between them doesn't seem to be much of a bother to the fans.

WALUIGI x DAISY: Waluigi first existed only to serve as a partner to Wario in Mario Tennis. He didn't grow much as a character since then, but considering Daisy was reintroduced in the series at the same time he first appeared, people like to put them in the same boat (or should we say in the same SHIP?). Waluigi is said to have a crush on Daisy, but does she reciprocate?

TOAD x TOADETTE: Of course, because two characters of the same species yet opposed gender often appear side-by-side, people just HAVE to pair them together. On that point, some game guides hint at the fact that Toad and Toadette are siblings. That obviously won't stop people from pairing them together, but still, something feels wrong about it. And despite the fact that Toads are now considered to be a genderless species, it would be nice if Nintendo would come with more variations of female gender-role playing Toads. There's a bit of a Smurfette syndrome going on here.

(Can't get enough of that wonderful shipping? Rejoice! There's a second part HERE !)

All characters belong to Nintendo!

Update, 2018-06-23: brushed up and streamlined the descriptions a bit to reflect my current feelings on each pairing.

Yup, I've been told that earlier in this page. Yet, it seems that was enough for some peeps to speculate on en eventual relationship between them.

Aww well, even nasty Wario CAN fall in love, too!

Thanks fo' da comment!

I pretty much agree with your opinions on these pairings, especially the Luigi x Daisy one and the Wario x Mona one! The Toad and Toadette one is hilarious, and so is the Waluigi x Daisy.

Well, Waluigi actually holds a rose when he taunts (or win something, I don't remember) in the last Mario Party. I don't know much more than that, to be honest.

Thanks!

Ah I see...I've never played a game with Waluigi in it (other than Double Dash) so I'm about as lost as you are. I've only really gotten more interested in the Mario Fandom since around the time I joined (I've played the games for years mind but not all that much). Before that I was a drifter trying to find a fandom that didn't fail, and before that I was into Retro Sonic (donkey's years ago and explains why I wasn't into Mario so much.XD), so yeah I lack a lot of knowladge about Mario and co. Still I do like Waluigi's appearance, he's very much the Dick Dastardly-type.

I didn't know that Toad and Toadette were siblings! Well, it makes a lot of sense, I guess. So, that just makes it weird for a love other than "normal sibling friendship" to happen. O.o

Yeah I'm going to have to go with the majority vote here and say I don't know of any sources that claim Toad and Toadette to be siblings.
Strategy Guides are often full of speculation and made up stuff anyway.

But a fine piece of work, I had never heard of the Waluigi & Daisy thing, but on the internet, anything is possible. Plus it would be pretty funny if they incorporated his cheesy come-ons in a game.

TheBourgyman In reply to professorfandango [2008-07-30 01:26:57 +0000 UTC]

I'm starting to wonder where I DID get the information, too. I ALWAYS thought they were bro and sis for some obscure reason, yet the Mario Kart Wii guide confirms it and a few sources on the net do as well (but we all know we can trust absolutely everything that can be found on the net...)

Yeah, I've seen Waluigi & Daisy a couple of times, enough for it to make the cut into this deviation. There's a lot more though, that's why I named this piece of art "Fan-based relationships PT. 1"!

Yes, I am aware of a couple of the more questionable ones. Let's see how you handle them.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Nolim In reply to ??? [2008-07-29 10:53:18 +0000 UTC]

I love this deviation !

Daisy x Luigi : Call it the Monica effect, but I was actually all "yeah, thank you so much Nintendo" when I saw their statue in Mario Kart Wii. And I agree this pairing does make sense, for the reasons you said. Beside, Daisy is a great character, so it is a manner of not loosing her.

Wario x Mona : I prefer Wario x captain Syrup. That's because I see captain Syrup as the anti-Peach. She is also interested in gold and is not exactly a nice lady, wich is good for Wario. We havent't heard of her in a while but she will be back in WarioLand: Shake It ! Also, Mona is way too young for Wario.

Waluigi x Daisy : Hey, I like that idea ! It makes as much sense as, say, Bowser x Peach. So I see it exactly like in your picture, but I see it anyway.

Toadette x Toad: I didn't know they were related. If so, I hope Toad is not the pervert of your last picture.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheBourgyman In reply to Nolim [2008-07-30 01:22:56 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha, the "Monica effect". I like the sound of that. (damn her and her awesome comics, haha)

I could never imagine the Wario x Syrup couple, for the sole reason that the two are enemies in at least two games (maybe three, can't remember). But I like the idea of having an anti-Peach in the Marioverse, we need that.

For Toad x Toadette, well most people here seem to be in the same situation as you. I thought it was well known that they were sibling, but APPARENTLY that is not the case. Why would the Mario Kart Wii official guide lie? WHYYYY? (Hell, I didn't even get my infroamtion from that guide)

Anyway, thanks for your input!

Nolim In reply to TheBourgyman [2008-07-30 10:05:02 +0000 UTC]

Wario fights Syrup instead of saving her, still she gives him a nice present --> [link]
But I must admit I don't see many Wario x Syrup pictures around here. This said, I once speculated that Syrup's first name might be Beach, since she is a pirate and beach is peach with a p/b switch. That's for my thoughts on an anti-Peach.

To tell you the truth, I have difficulties thinking a main individual out of the Toads. I can't really explain why, since I don't have such problem with Yoshi the yoshi. Anyway, this may explain my situation.

Oh, mais de rien, et vivement la partie 2. ^^

Well, since everyone here is giving their opinions towards the couples listed here, I'll give mine:

Daisy x Luigi: It's a given, it seems so perfect, like you said, the personality of daisy goes well with Luigi, making daisy the "alpha female" if you know what I mean

Mona x Wari0: age age age age age, thats the problem for every fan couple, whos age differ greatly, although for me thats not a problem as well, I fully support the pairing, but not in the "lovey dovey" sense, as for personality... yeah Mona does like money but not to such an extent compared to another female Wario character Captain Syrup ( who will be appearing in the upcoming game, Warioland Shake it), other than that Mona also "breaks the law" in the first Warioware game, chooses to dress like Wario in various microgame cutscenes:[link]
or my version:[link] , and seem to act as a direct conduit ( messenger) to the Warioware employees, acting like a vice president of some sort, additionally Mona seems to have "italian attributes, background" thus supporting the couple theory even more...

Waluigi x Daisy: What sick mind would come up with this one....... I really think this wouldn't work out

Toad and Toadette: I really think that they are a brother sister team, similar to the Ice climbers, although after seeing the cutscene in Super Mario galaxy, where toad and toadette were in a "romantic position", made me think otherwise....

Gay, lesbian, feet fetish, furry, fat-ified couples?!?!, nah!! not my taste....

And lastly, of course great artwork, I wouldn't expect any less from you, It's just one thing that puzzles me.... did you use the art style of love and cake for the Mona x Wario drawing?, it seemed to replicate it, to such a great extent!

pikachao7 In reply to Skatoonist [2008-07-30 10:37:16 +0000 UTC]

Here is mine.
I'm fine with Luigi x Daisy. Wario x Mona is great for me. Waluigi x Daisy is something I don't think would work, but I have been thinking of pairing him with Captain Syrup for hilarious effects. Toad x Toadette never did appeal to me in the beginning or now. I rather focus on Toad's reaction to Toadette's friendship to Wario.

P.S.: Since one of the later comments said that Captain Syrup is the anti-Peach, does that make Mona an anti-Daisy?

P.S.S.: Do you remember this comment:

[link]

You have yet to answered about Kat and Ana's position in Japanese grade school, and you said something about Mona's Italian attributes except for the accent you said that is non-Italian. Also, I replied to this other comment:

The reason why, i say that Captain syrup is the anti-peach is, look at the similarities of their looks: [link] eachPerrySPP.png
[link]

same lipstick design!!, and the diferences in thier personality( peach is a girl that needs saving and Captain Syrup is a girl you need to be saved from!!), it's staggering!!

as for Mona being the anti daisy...... nah.. daisy and Mona still have similarities in personalites, and their looks don't clash

pikachao7 In reply to Skatoonist [2008-08-05 11:23:35 +0000 UTC]

Peach and Syrup does look similiar to each other. I wonder if Syrup will try to kidnap Peach rather than the gold statue like last time. Do you think Mona and Daisy could be potential pals, or will the little things like Mona's strange tastes and Daisy's ummm... uniqueness will get in the way? By the way, you could say you don't know if you have no idea about Kat and Ana's grade school position in Japan if you have no idea. I kinda want resolution to that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Skatoonist In reply to pikachao7 [2008-08-05 11:51:49 +0000 UTC]

I highly doubt that Syrup would use hostages as a method to earn income, it's just not her style..valuable treasure like objects are more her speed.

Actually I do, they seem to be "strong" women, and they kinda look alike( no they are not sisters!), although their view towards Wario is completely different ( Mona has a "positve view towards wario, not counting the descriptive insults she has against him, put it this way, she think's he's cool but not handsome. While daisy on the otherhand seems to be on negative terms towards Wario, because Wario was the one who orchestrated the attack on Sarasaland, by hiring tatanga to take it over!, but other than thatm they "might" get along

True, I have no idea what their position is in japan, but if you think about it.... why would NOA change that "gradeschool" position in the first place, the only changes I know of, are localization and censorship issues.

PLUS, if you look at the Brawl trophy, KatAna are STILL in kindergarten.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pikachao7 In reply to Skatoonist [2008-08-06 08:07:05 +0000 UTC]

I guess Syrup wouldn't kidnap people for ransom because it will be more trouble than it is worth, especially with the Mario Bros. Treasure don't usually fight back or run away. Yeah, I heard about him organizing that attack to distract Mario from his land, but where is the source that tells you that? I wonder if those defeats from the good guys made him realize it is better to steal from bad guys and raid ruins. I think it would make for a good story that after Daisy made friends with Mona, she gets a rude awakening when she finds out that Mona is friends with Wario. On Kat and Ana, the Brawl trophy could be just NOA keeping the kindergarden thing going and may also be just as wrong as Kaptain K. Rool being the brother to King K. Rool even though it is really King K. Rool in pirate clothes. I think NOA thought it be interesting to make them kindergarden ninjas to show that they are awesome or probably are confused about the Japanese school system.

P.S.: I also thought that Kat and Ana realize the publicity of being Kindergarden ninjas. Maybe after Twisted with the possibility of going to regular grade school, they kept the title because grade school ninjas doesn't sound as neat as kindergarden ninjas.

Skatoonist In reply to pikachao7 [2008-08-06 08:25:23 +0000 UTC]

Tatanga is a boss in Super Mario land 2 six golden coins. ALSO Nintendo power confirmed that Wario hired Tatanga to attack Sarasaland in order for Wario to buy time for the siege in Mario's castle, btw (Wario didn't target daisy, Wario's orders was to attack Sarasaland, not to kidnap Daisy, that was just the bonus tatanga got for the job)

And I think Wario steals from anybody, good guys or badguys, with no personal vendetta EXCEPT!! for Mario

as for the KatAna smash thing: Shigero Miyamoto, overlooked and guided the development of the localization for Brawl, didn't you notice in Brawl, in the Warioware stage, the minigames remained "japan oriented"

and lastly, I still believe that they are kindergarten....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pikachao7 In reply to Skatoonist [2008-09-01 14:18:22 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure Nintendo Power is a official source, but I guess it counts. I once thought Tatanga was after Daisy, but you prove me wrong. I think Wario is more likely to go after bad guys' treasure because I think he is somewhat genre savvy and knows that he won't get bothered by the good guys if he just steals from the ne'er-do-wells. As for the vendetta, Wario's hatred for Mario seemed to cool down over the years since he got wealth and fame for himself so I think Wario will just annoy Mario from time to time and tried to beat him at sports. I didn't noticed the microgames in Brawl were "Japan oriented." How are they "Japan oriented?" I still think the twins just keep the title "Kindergarden Ninjas" just to be unique even if they go to grade school. I hope a funny scene will appear in a future game that will show that little tidbit.

Thanks for your input! And for the Mona thing, I didn't even know she had dressed as Wario before! That just supports the idea better apparently. And yeah, I know about Captain Syrup loving as much money as Wario, but she's his nemesis, so I don't see why she should be paired with him. O_o

For your last question, no, I didn't try to use Love and Cake's style of art. These renditions have been inspired from the original art (maybe we just have similar ways of drawing, lol). But I DID take some inspiration from her and I was trying to come up with a good pose for them.

Skatoonist In reply to TheBourgyman [2008-07-30 08:41:43 +0000 UTC]

Heh!, sure no problem, yeah after comparing both of your styles ( Yours, and Love and cake) it is very similar, ESPECIALLY the coloring.

And what you said you try to replicate the "original art" to your whim?... SWEET!, same here! plus may I just add your doing a very good job at it.

but asides the obvious, what's your opinion towards another "sorta" famous Warioware couple: Mona x Young Cricket

In my opinion: the age is perfect although, the coupling itself, is not to my liking...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pikachao7 In reply to Skatoonist [2008-07-30 10:50:14 +0000 UTC]

On that Mona x Young Cricket, I am not a fan of that pairing. It seemed it is just put together because they looked good together. One reason I liked Wario x Mona is that it made Mona seemed she saw something deeper in Wario despite that she said that Wario's face is ugly, and the fact that she stick around for that long with Wario and friends made me think she does value things beyond superficial qualities. Or maybe she is just strange and weird.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Skatoonist In reply to pikachao7 [2008-07-30 12:35:57 +0000 UTC]

That my friend is a VERY GOOD THING TO PONDER ON:

Does Mona like Wario for:

1. The sake of weirdness

2. His coolness ( stated in the 1st manual)

3. Friendship

Yeah, but that ugly mug thing caught me off guard, I've always thought Mona though Wario was handsome in his own way, i have to ponder some more.... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

and what other values do you think she w like about Wario? ( woah i'm flabbergasted, that little bit of info changed a big chunk of perspective towards Mona...... thinking Wario has an ugly mug....... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pikachao7 In reply to Skatoonist [2008-08-06 07:08:10 +0000 UTC]

I have been thinking about that face thing for a while. I wonder if it is possible to be handsome yet still be ugly since some fans of Wario think he is somewhat handsome. Also, other fans think he is cute even though he was made to be uglier than Mario, maybe Mona thought of Wario as cute instead of handsome. It could also be that she was still angry over that incident with the profits in the 1st game since she called him a greedy punk as well. Well, those qualities you mentioned could be just part of the many things she likes about Wario. She could like him for his strength and stamina, his strange powers he displayed in his adventures, his manliness, his devil may care attitude, and maybe lingering fandom of him. She could want to be a treasure hunter like Wario for the adventure and mountains of treasure. Although she likes money, she also has her loyal little pets who help her out, suggesting she cares about them a lot. Maybe she senses that Wario can loves something more than money since he has a pet chicken named Hen he loved a lot. There is that possibility that she has a fantasy of him being a redeemable bad guy who is still badass in more ways than one. I also do wonder if she is immune to the smell of garlic because of some event in the past.

P.S.: I thought of giving her resistance to hypnotism from anyone, including Wario, as being a side effect of her strangeness.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Skatoonist In reply to pikachao7 [2008-08-06 07:55:12 +0000 UTC]

Perfect answer!!, I couldn't have done any better!, but what you mean by immunity to hypnotism?, are you saying Wario only has friends due to him "hypnotizing them?!. I doubt it because, if they where hypnotized, they wouldn't revolt when Wario tried to take away, all the profits!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pikachao7 In reply to Skatoonist [2008-08-06 09:34:41 +0000 UTC]

I didn't mean that his friends are hypnotized by Wario. I meant the resistance (not immunity) to hypnotism as Mona's hidden special ability so Wario's enemies will get a nice surprise. I doubt nintendo will put that in though. Will Nintendo bring back that interesting hypnotism trick of Wario from Super Mario Land 2 and probably Super Mario Land 3 ever again?

P.S.: I thought up an interesting weakness in Wario's hypnotism. After the victim gets out of the trance, the victim will go berserk on any poor sap close by. That would make for a good reason why he never use it again, but that is my thought.

Skatoonist In reply to pikachao7 [2008-08-06 09:37:37 +0000 UTC]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pikachao7 In reply to Skatoonist [2008-08-08 19:56:37 +0000 UTC]

Well, I thought it would be an interesting ability for Mona who doesn't have the myriad of special abilities like the Mario Bros., Peach, and other characters. She is very ordinary compared to those characters who performed superhuman feats like it is a normal thing despite her own uniqueness. I thought the hypnotism resistance could be useful in battles or mainly a plot thing if she gets a role in a non-Wario Ware game like a RPG. It would be unexpected except to Wario who may already tried it on her. Also, the ability is strange just like her. Oh for further questions, I meant that she could pretend to be hypnotized because Wario told her to so she could trick the hypnotizer for a plot in a RPG.
