Description
There you go, second animation in the lot. And since some of you asked for color, there it is! (despite the fact this process took about 80% of the total amount of time spent on this animation). I had plans for more elements into this one, but I think it will be fine as is.The movements didn't turn out exactly as I wanted them to be, and I had a hard time with those hammers (merci Γmilie
My God, I'll be so tired at work tomorrow.
Drawn with Wacom 6x8" Intuos3 tablet. Total time spent : 25+ hours in Flash MX 2004.
Mario and all characters are copyright (c) Nintendo.

I suppose you mean "Did you do that?"?
If so, then yes, I did all of it.

It would be cool if you added sound effects.

Yeah but it would get deleted from DA fast enough since it's against their disclaimer to use copyrighted sounds.

I want to get my mario stuff on the site but first I gotta draw them....then scan them...then probabaly edit them...Its gonna take a while. But still this is awesome!

You don't HAVE to edit them on the computer. Some people who do art traditionally use very little computer modifications, or when they do, they're little mods like cropping, adjusting the colours, etc.

To be honest my computer is kinda crap and I dont have like any picture/photo editing stuff. All I have is paint but paint is sweet.

i like that cool effect with the flash where it kinda seems like he is bublging in and out and stuff, i dunno if you know what i mean, but did you purposly do that? and if so, is there a track to it?
π: 0 β©: 1
TheBourgyman In reply to Batistick13 [2009-05-13 03:27:58 +0000 UTC]
You mean the fact it's "wobbling" all the time?
In animation jargon, we call it "Squigglevision". Some cartoons use that kind of effect in order to give some liveliness to it, the best example being "Ed, Edd + Eddy".

Batistick13 In reply to TheBourgyman [2009-05-13 03:30:21 +0000 UTC]
YES that is what im talking abuot, i absolutely love it, how do you do that, is there some trick other than just trying to draw it like that?
and Ed, Edd and Eddy WAS my chilhood, haha gotta love that show
π: 0 β©: 1
TheBourgyman In reply to Batistick13 [2009-05-13 03:34:44 +0000 UTC]
The trick is just that instead of having one static drawing for a stationary pose (i.e.: a guy's standing there, doing nothing for a few seconds), this exact pose is drawn usually three to five times, and those drawings are looped together in the final sequence. Since there's no way on Earth two different drawings can be EXACTLY the same (unless you're like, a robot), the final effect will be that the character "wobbles" a bit, while being stationary. That's the magic of animation!

Batistick13 In reply to TheBourgyman [2009-05-13 03:42:35 +0000 UTC]
hmm, ok, so like if you have a guy, lets say in flash, you double click to do that thing to go "inside" the drawing and draw him like 3 times so it will loop, right? i deffinatly will have to try this for my next flash!

TheBourgyman In reply to Batistick13 [2009-05-13 04:01:00 +0000 UTC]
Actually, there's an option in later versions of Flash, called the Onion Skin (it's an icon located not too far from the Trash Bin in the Timeline window) that enables you to see the content of neighbour frames when you're X frames away from them on the timeline. You could use that option to "trace" your guy on the next frame, just like if you were tracing something using regular print paper. Then you do it two or three more times and then, you got enough frames to do the Squigglevision effect.
I hope it wasn't too hard to understand.

yeahi use onion skinning alot, i actually think one of my flashs might have the squiggle effect, but it was when i was just starting so it is really sloppy. kind like squiggle effect overdrive, haha. Thanks so much for explaining it to me, it helps alot, and will deffinatly improve some of my next flashs

Cool!! But why would the color take so long? that is the easiest part; flash makes it easy
π: 0 β©: 1
TheBourgyman In reply to antago [2009-04-10 20:40:21 +0000 UTC]
Because there's just a lot to color! Depending on the frame, it can take longer to color one than the time it took to draw it!
π: 0 β©: 1
antago In reply to TheBourgyman [2009-04-11 06:29:14 +0000 UTC]
I know it takes more time to draw the animation that to simply use flood fill to add some simple colors.
π: 0 β©: 1
TheBourgyman In reply to antago [2009-04-11 18:10:36 +0000 UTC]
Hmmm, I think you're right. I just remembered the method I used for colouring (which consists of applying one single colour to all frames before switching to the next colour) and that's probably what made it seem so long. Because it took a while to get all of the frames to be completely coloured.
Still, I spent more time colouring this than I originally wanted to!
