Description MMMYES. DESPITE SVEJ'S PISSY WICKEDNESS, ZERO STILL FINDS THE PRETTIEST DAMN JUNGLE FLOWER HE CAN FIND AND LEAVES IT NEXT TO SVEJ. BUT HE'S STILL A BIT SORE ABOUT STELLA, AS YOU CAN OBVIOUSLY TELL. ONLY STELLA GETS BURIED WHILE SVEJ IS LEFT OUT FOR THE JUNGLE TO TAKE CARE OF, AS PER WHAT ZERO'S BEEN TAUGHT TO DO WITH DEAD THINGS.

SVEJ, YOU GONNA GIVE BACK TO THE PLANET AND BE FOODZ FOR THE LOCAL WILDLIFE. UGUUUU. ;u;

OH, YES, AND I SUPPOSE I SHOULD PROVIDE SOME SORT OF AN EXPLANATION ON THOSE STUPID FLIES, SHOULDN'T I? I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT THE NOTES I HAD WRITTEN DOWN FOR THESE STUPID THINGS ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO WHEN I WAS FIRST SKETCHING THIS COMIC OUT AND IT WASN'T UNTIL I STARTED HEARING SOME CURIOUS SOUNDS FROM MY AUDIENCE DIRECTED TOWARDS SVEJ'S CURRENT STATE OF HIS BODY THAT I REMEMBERED THAT I HAD MY NOTES FOR THIS COMIC STASHED AWAY IN MY FILES.

Those little flying bugs are Lesser Corpse Flies. They're an invasive species normally carried by animals with the onset of gangrene or another type of tissue rot that invites insects to feast upon them. These insects were carried to Nahara via the animals unleashed into the wild by unknown entities. They lay from fifty to one hundred eggs on a single corpse and eventually die having expended their egg supply. The maggots that hatch start out at 1/4 of an inch long and quickly start eating the host to grow up to 2 inches long in the process. They spit up some of their digestive juices on their food source to break down the tissues they feed upon which, in turn, causes heavy necrosis of surrounding tissues. A thousand of these maggots can completely eat all of the soft tissues from a single dead animal within four days.

HOPE THAT CLEARS UP SOME THINGS.

THAT'S ALL FOR THIS ROUND, FOLKS! HOPE YOU LIKED IT!

huh... decomposition rate is very rapid in this comic what happened there oh wait it's a jungle and humid so that would explain why he already has stage 5 maggots in his eyes from the flies.

TheCau In reply to CrystalBlackHeart [2012-06-23 04:06:23 +0000 UTC]

Indeedy.

I know that places with substantial heat and humidity tend to make tissues decompose faster (which would explain why those stinking possums that get hit on the road next to my house start rotting so freaking fast in the summer time).

And perhaps those flies are some sort of specialized carrion flies that reproduce rapidly by feeding their young freshly dead bodies. Enzymes that the maggots secrete could also aid in the breakdown of tissues which thus speeds up the rotting process.

CrystalBlackHeart In reply to TheCau [2012-06-23 04:33:22 +0000 UTC]

yes that is a good way to explain the high rate of decomposition and it's very well done I like this one, even though I should be grossed out. I love this kind of stuff I watch a lot of mystery shows and detective ones they are my favorite. ^_^

TheCau In reply to CrystalBlackHeart [2012-06-23 04:48:01 +0000 UTC]

Heh, and I also found my notes I did on this round. I actually went into further detail and named those ugly little black flies because I was so excited to actually draw/color something that was dead and rotting. I'm also planning on using those for some later comics I'll be illustrating. HNNNG. Flies. ;w;

I like watching detective shows, too. Monk was my favorite for the longest time. ;u;

sweetness that sounds really cool and I can't wait to see that I am so excited now eeee that's awesome so few take the time to do that kind of stuff to have the flies and then create a species did you splice or was it more of a complete original idea that you came up with.

:0 Been liking this, except I can't bring myself to ignore the fact that, that is WAY too soon for maggots to appear. He'd have to have been dead for at least a day already.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheCau In reply to Erohiel [2012-06-23 04:01:18 +0000 UTC]

Not necessarily.

This is an alien planet in the first place and there's no telling how fast maggots can hatch out of eggs laid by local flies. Plus, the 90+ degree temperature and 100% humidity aids in the breakdown of bodily tissues. Things start rotting really fast.

Erohiel In reply to TheCau [2012-06-23 07:42:36 +0000 UTC]

:0 I suppose so. I guess there's no accounting for how fast alien maggots will grow.
