And lo and behold, before Seyphus actually existed like he does now, about four or five years ago, he started out as this hideous, malformed, blood-encrusted... thing called the Executioner.

My god, he was hideous, lol

He was supposed to be infected with a weird parasitic fungus called Urmak that normally warps its host into something very ugly and horrible. It turned his fightin' arm into a scythe because weapons that aren't built-in are for losers. He also had a really funky growth where his missing eye is woooo~

Urmak is super nasty where it re-purposes affected tissue areas to become blackened, engorged with blood, peppered with coalescing and oozing sores/abscesses, with the occasional extremely alien protrusion and/or specialization of a specific part of the body/entire body to become adept at spreading the parasite around and turn its host into a very dangerous and formidable enemy once it takes over the brain--which is normally very fast.

The longer an individual is infected (and doesn't die on the spot due to sensitivity to the infection because that sometimes happens, too), the more the infection spreads and warps the body to its specifications. However, few hosts are lucky to be resistant enough to the parasite to resist its effects on cognitive ability and can remain sentient for an extremely long period of time. The parasite may or may not take over the host's brain over time, but rule of thumb goes that everybody eventually does succumb to it. It's a cruel world out there.

There's also considerable evidence pointing to a possible hivemind sentience with affected hosts as they all seem to try and function as one unit. Whether or not Urmak is something that can be destroyed other than annihilating any and all contaminated fomites (infectious objects), hosts, or suspected hosts, is still subject to discourse.

Because everybody loves a horrifying body-warping parasitic hivemind. *cough cough like Deadspace lmao cough good game cough*
