So I used your idea to make Dumbledore's/the Elder Wand as well as Voldemort's wand as a present to my best friend. They turned out amazing if I do say so myself. I used mine at the midnight showing and people were flabbergasted that I had made it myself. So I have you to thank for that. I will put up some pictures soon. My camera is currently not working though.

I think I'll use this as a general guide to make myself a Dumbledore wand for the final midnight showing. I dress up every year but I just don't have his wand.

They are simple to make! A good friend of mine made a replica of Dumbledore's wand using this tutorial, it looks amazing. She scuffed it up a bit with sandpaper and applied a really dark woodstain to finish it all off (Bombay Mahogony i think) it had a sealer in it as well so she didnt have to put super shiny polyeurathane on top.

Awesome, I'll look for that when I go to get materials. Do you know how she did the bumps in the wand? I was thinking of clay or maybe styrofoam....

The bumps were just little mounds of the sculpey/polymer clay that she rolled on, then blended into the dowel. The 'holes' or divits she did with the rounded tip of a seam ripper (tip on the handle)

Thanks I'll see if I can do about the same. I hope it will turn out well and not be more expensive than actually buying the wand. I won't have time to make it until I go on break in 4 weeks though. Thanks for all the tips.

Thank you so much! Hopefully I'll get the time to redo the tutorial in the near future. The layout is bugging me a little bit.

No problem. The coolest technique i've discovered is that (if you have a lathe) to do a basic turn on the lathe, and customize it with the dremmel

Unfortunately, I don't have a lathe, but it sounds like the finished product is really cool!
