another panel off a page from Sinbad #1in case you're wondering. I colour all the characters once the Backgrounds are completed. so yes, character's aren't coloured up yet.

Hey Jeff these layouts you are doing for simbad are really kickass, love them all, cant wait to see the comic. I do the same, a complete BG and then the characters. But I usully draw the characters apart and then I import them to the background in another layer. Great job bro

as for the adding the characters from a seperate drawing
i've done that for some instances in this book, but mainly for this anthology piece i've recently completed.

wow how do you get that painted look? do you change the brush flow? is the first thing you do is lay down the flat dark colors? that's me guessin. but i never seem to get it right when i try this style os colorin'. i luv this pic by the way. you inspire me.

i primarily use 'watercolour loaded wet flat tip' brush on a low opacity for shades/highlights and the smudge tool.
works out quite nicely for me..
