Man have I been lazy about getting on DeviantArt! I finished this back in mid August! I'm so sorry guys!So this is a mask I made for a good friend of the family (Mainly my older brother's friend though). The mask is Casey Jones’s Mask from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (The 1990 Movie version). I made it a little more grungy and beat-up looking than the actual mask. And I originally didn’t mean to do that, but I kind of got carried away, and I ended up liking it. And so did the guy I made it for, which was more important than my opinion in this case haha. This also took me longer than it probably should have to make, but it was my first time trying the “Pepakura Method” (For anyone that may not know, its a Prop making method. Just look it up haha), and I took a summer class. It was twice a week, all day for 4 weeks. So that slowed me down haha.
Anyway... if anyone is curious, I made it with card stock (That was the base), I had to cut out a whole bunch of pieces of card stock and hot glued it all together and thats how the mask was formed (Again, if you look up “Pepakura", it will make sense). I then covered the card stock in a few coats of Epoxy Resin to make it hard and sturdy. Then once that was all done drying (I had to wait *about* a day for each coat to dry) I added a few coats of Bondo (Car Body Filler stuff), and then I had sand that down a lot because I failed to get a nice even coat the first time around. Then after doing all that I added more Resin, then painted it, and then added more Resin to give it that nice glossy shine. And thats pretty much it other than the straps. I don’t really know what to say about those though. There is a picture to see how I did it, and then I added some padding from an old helmet of ours (Covered it with new fabric). I placed it near the cheekbones of the mask so that when you wear the mask the bottom part won’t rest your mouth. I also put Velcro in there. That way you can remove the padding if one wishes.
I almost forgot! I used Apoxie Sculpt to add the eyebrow arches, and that detail thing on the forehead haha.
