Description Chapter 1 - Papyrus

You hummed lightly to the song, eventually getting into it so much so that you began to lip-sync to it. You smiled a little at your amusement, when your phone dinged.

*Hey, Babe.* It was a text from you boyfriend, Caden (just roll with it and sorry if you do have a relation to a Caden). Well, calling him your boyfriend is a bit of a stretch. He only ever really talked to you through phone, while in real life, he was too busy talking to his other friends. It wouldn't have bothered you too much if you had other friends to turn to, but being the introvert you were, friends were a hard thing to come by.

You picked up the phone and texted him back.

*Hey, what's up?*

*I've been thinking... I think we need to talk about our relationship.* You let out a sigh, happy he was realizing it, too. You began to text something out, when another message from him popped up. *You've been totally distancing yourself from me, what's up with that?*

You gripped your phone a bit.

*Says the one who doesn't give me the time of day.*

*Whoa.
What are you talking about?*

You didn't respond, instead turning off your phone and looking to the laptop. Your happy demeanor gone. You took off your head phones and covered your face with your hands. You shouldn't let it get to you, but when your only moral support is a jerky, probably-gonna-be ex-boyfriend, you couldn't help the subtle feeling of depression.

You sat up straight and went to your YouTube account, deciding to watch a couple funny videos to lift your spirit before heading to bed. You noticed a message in your inbox and smiled seeing the username. D4pperBl00k was a friendly ghost, real name Napstablook, who had attended college with you for the first half of the year, until having to move so he could be closer to his cousin. You stayed in touch in various media sharing sites, but with your love of music you connected most through YouTube and Spotify.

Oh, yeah. Him being a ghost was strange at first, but that's because monsters were still migrating into the world at the time. But now, seven months in, everyone was welcoming the monsters with open arms. There was still so many different types of them though, you hadn't gotten used to them all, yet. Napstablook was cool though.

You opened the message, curious to see what the little guy had to say.

*Hello, ___. Long time no see. I'm messaging you, because... I have some friends from my old, old home moving into your town. I think two of them will be attending your college.
I wanted to message and tell you, because I know you have a hard time making friends, too... This family is pretty nice though. I think you would like them. My cousin knows them better and recommends them highly. You don't have to, but it might be worth a shot.
I'm not sure when you'll get this message, so I'll tell you their names. The taller, louder brother who cooks a lot of pasta is Papyrus and the smaller, lazy one who makes a lot of puns is Sans. So, if you meet a new student with either name or acts either way, it's them. Oh and btw, they're also monsters. Just not ghosts. Actually they're skeletons.
Long message is long. Sorry. Really sorry.
Just give it some thought...
I liked your new mix you uploaded, btw.
K, bye.*

You blinked at the abnormally large message, but smiled slightly. That was sweet of Napstablook to look after you. You weren't sure though... If you ran into either one of these colorful sounding guys, maybe you'd give it a shot. But at the moment, you really didn't have the heart to consider it.

You closed the message and began to browse for some videos to make you laugh.

~

You rubbed your eyes as you headed for the cafeteria. After falling asleep in math, you could use some lunch. You were just happy that you could leave at any point in time now, since all your classes for the day were over. But of course, you needed to go face Caden.

You scanned the cafeteria and found him. He was talking to his friends, like usual, and for once you noticed something. There wasn't that many monsters attending the college, probably only ten percent of the students were monsters, but you noticed they really kept their distance from Caden. Weird.

You walked over, causing your boyfriends gaze to lift up and look to you.

"Hey, Babe. What was up last night? You never responded." He tried to sound sincere, but you could tell he was overall bored.

"I'm surprised you responded now." You narrowed your eyes, as he simply raised an eyebrow.

"You really have been acting weird. You're not mad at me, are you? Did I do something wrong?" You glanced at his friends, before looking back to him.

"No, you did nothing wrong. But that's the problem, you do nothing. I can't have a relationship through a phone, Caden." He seemed to consider your response, before nodding.

"It's hard to talk you in person... You just mean too much to me, I'm afraid to mess up." You shook your head.

"Your friends must mean nothing to you then." You turned your back to him. "Look, I thought maybe this would work out and you would speak up, but I'm tired of this..."

"Fine... Looks like this is goodbye then... I wish you luck, ___. I hope you live your dreams..." You gritted your teeth. He didn't sound sincere and it just sounded like he copied a quote from some stupid rom-com. You turned back and glared at him, feeling your heart twist.

"Don't be cheesy, it isn't funny."

"I wasn't trying to be cheesy. I just wanted you to remember me as a supportive friend." He glanced at his friends, half-smiling. You glowered, but bit your lip, turning around and walking off. You had lost your appetite.

You rushed through the cafeteria towards the entrance, when something in the corner of your eye, stopped you in your tracks. You looked over to see a slightly taller-than-you skeleton standing in front of the cafeteria, a paper lunch bag in hand. He seemed to be looking around the room for someone and you could see the lost and almost scared look in his eye. You remembered your message from Napstablook and made your way over.

"Excuse me." The skeleton jumped and looked to you with wide eye... Sockets. You tried to think of something that wouldn't embarrass you both. "Uh, you're new right? I was about to go grab some food. Would you maybe want to sit with me? That is, if you want."

He seemed to hesitate, sweat appearing on his skull (huh, didn't think that could happen) and he looked over the cafeteria one more time before he looked to you, again.

"HUMAN... I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL TAKE YOU UP ON THAT OFFER." You smiled, laughing lightly at his title, as you gestured over to a small table.

"Cool. Save me a spot and I'll be right with you." He nodded hurriedly, his cheek bones lifting a bit, making it look like he was really smiling. You felt your heart lift a little as you went to go grab some food.

~

You set your tray down, taking a sip of your drink as you sat down in front of Papyrus. You took a quick glance at his lunch. A water bottle, spaghetti (it was steaming, how did he warm it up?) and a slice of butterscotch pie. Why didn't you have home lunch like that? You smiled softly, as you noticed he was still unsure about you.

"So, Papyrus. What brings you to this college? This wouldn't be my first choice of a college." You asked. He hesitated, before you noticed his invisible wall lower a little as he smiled slightly.

"THAT IS A LONG STORY, HUMAN. BUT WE HAD SEVERAL FRIENDS RECOMMEND IT TO US." He blinked, before looking to you astonished. "HOW DO YOU KNOW THE GREAT PAPYRUS' NAME?! WERE THOSE STORIES OF HUMAN MIND-READING TRUE?!"

"No, no, no! That's not it. You said your name earlier and also my friend, Napstablook, messaged me about you and your brother." Suddenly, his invisible walls came crushing down as he reached over and grabbed your hands.

"WOWIE! YOU KNOW METTATON'S COUSIN?! NOT ONLY THAT, BUT YOU KNOW MY BROTHER AND I AS WELL?!" You smiled brightly at his antics and nodded.

"I've heard of you both, yes." He released your hands and the scarf around his neck seemed to blow in some sort of wind a bit.

"I AM FLATTERED, HUMAN! YOU DO NOT REALIZE HOW HARD IT IS TO FIND HUMANS WHO WILLINGLY ACCEPT US MONSTERS!"

"Papyrus, monsters aren't that different from humans. I have to admit, I was like the majority and was afraid at first, but if monsters are anything like Napstablook..." You paused and gestured to him. "Or you, then monsters can't be that bad."

An orange hue crossed his cheek bones and you assumed it was his own sort of skeleton blush.

"THANK YOU, HUMAN... WAIT!! I CANT KEEP CALLING YOU HUMAN! WHAT IS YOUR NAME?" You glanced back over to where Caden and his friends were sitting, before holding out a hand to Papyrus.

"My name is ___. It is a pleasure to meet you, Papyrus."

~

"W-wow, that's nice. I'm glad he ran into you." You were skyping Napstablook and was telling him about your day, including Caden and your troubles, but you were mostly gushing about Papyrus.

"I know! I'm so happy I invited him to sit with me. He is just the sweetest little... Well, tall thing." You shook your head and looked to Napstablook. "So, how are you?"

"Oh. I'm good. I'm having my cousin over tomorrow, that's why I skyped you today. Since he's... Sort of the opposite of me." He seemed to fade a bit. "Hey, ___. Don't let that guy you were talking about get to you. Someone nice like you deserves someone better. Not like me... But someone who makes you happy."

You giggled lightly.

"You make me happy, Napstablook."

"But also someone who can make you sad, in that good kind of way... I think my cousin knows more about stuff like this. But don't be sad. If you're sad, I'm sad...der." You heard his phone go off in the background and his eyes averted to it. "Oh. I have to go. Sorry."

"That's okay, seeya." The Skype call ended and you check your phone. Surprisingly you got a text from Caden.

*___, I'm sorry. I don't know what I was saying, maybe we should talk about this at lunch tomorrow. Just you and me.* Your eyes narrowed and you deleted the message, blocking his phone number. Going back to your messages, you found seven new ones from Papyrus. You smiled, reading through them, talking about all sorts of things. From thanking you for sitting with him for lunch, to talking about his world famous spaghetti, to him talking about his brother, Sans.

It wasn't super obvious, but you could tell he cared for his brother. You just wondered what his brother was like. If you read right, he was the more relaxed of the two, maybe too relaxed. Papyrus was saying one of the reasons for coming to this college was because Sans was failing in the previous college they attended, mostly because of his lack of effort to do anything.

You texted Papyrus back, telling him to have a good night and telling him to meet up at lunch tomorrow, before turning off your phone and heading to bed.

Oh gosh, wait till Sans shows up before throwing those out. I would make him greet you now, but he says he's too lazy to respond right at the moment. Which means he won't be ready for at least a week.

Do you even need to ask?

A story with Sans in it that has no puns is like anime without fan-service. It is impossible.

And the puns will be bad, but somehow this skeleton can make some of those puns charming.Β  Β
