Description
Original character; Miss Crowley belongs to me! (Although lately I've totally been trying to take cues and learn from folks like ~Unknown-person , *kilojara16 , and ~Oly-RRR - all of whom draw her much better than I do.Cast: Miss Crowley, getting jiggy, on a background that turned into a CD cover, haha! XD
See, if you can actually squint and read that smudgy stuff over on the left, there, that's an (incomplete) little playlist of the stuff I usually put on loop when I'm writing or drawing Miss Crowley.
(Now, my ... er... minor obsession with putting life to music is hardly news to anybody who noses around my silly little gallery long enough to see I'm lame enough to name everything in there after song titles -- but, I'm curious; does anybody else do this with their characters? Theme songs, karaoke, mood music... or just something you like to listen to when you're drawing or writing? Let me know, Internets - I love a story, especially one with rock-and-roll in, and I love picking up new music!
And, of course, if you don't do this, and I'm just a nutter with too much music and time on her hands -- enjoy the squishy Miss Crowley! 8D Dance, magic, dance!
Materials: Pencil, Sharpie, Microsoft Paint for flats, background, and text; Open Canvas for shading and little highlight bubbles.

Aw, shucks. I'm always just afraid it makes me look like a hermit with too much bad music and time on her hands. (Which, technically, it is.)
As for how it goes, it really depends on the artist! People sometimes make one that they think the characters themselves would like to listen to (*flipsidered and =wansworld did bits of theirs that way), or songs that describe them (like =manic-pixie and =kilojara16 have been doing), or a mix of both! (Like how =exileddelusion and *rentabby do it.) Some people even make lists for a character's story (like ~sonopants ), or different ones for different situations (=auryn did that with Ryn). I just use songs that make me think of the character. So - long story short - it probably is one of those flowing "do what you may do" jazzy deals.
"Fat-Bottomed Girls" is possibly the most accurate song on this list, my goodness.
Sorry this took so long to get back to -- I'm awful about replying to comments on stuff that's more than a month old; I always forget to go back and check for new comments. D: (Although three months between comments is long, even for me.) I hope this was useful to you anyway! Thanks for looking!

Which makes this reply suprising and poweful
Oh cool. I love connecting music with characters. Finding a song that suits an event or a personality. Or a lyric that sums them up. It's just wonderful.
But yeah, never feel bad. I think it's awesome that you're musical like that.
The respect is there, believe me.

did a piece like this, following in your footsteps, and seeing it here confirms my suspicions that this is a GREAT and fun idea!
i think that while what others take from a character is largely up to them in their heads, the songs you listen to and are inspired by can add another dimension to the character as well...personally i love to keep a playlist or two handy for characters and ideas
again, sweet idea and i might just do the same! (I also dig the lil Miss Crowley, hehe )

O-Ohmigosh! *_*;; -fantards out!-
I... I'm a huge fan of your work, sir! (Gogo Bomango is seriously one of those characters I can't get enough of -- there is a real sense of hidden depths, but hidden depths that if you fish around in, you are likely to lose your finger.)
(... gah, okay, I rewrote that sentence like three times and there is no way to write it that doesn't sound much, much, creepier than it does in my head, I promise. Argh argh. I'm sorry.)
(YOU DRAWS GOOD.)
And th-thanks so much! I had just sort of figured that making playlists for characters meant that I had too much time on my hands, but it's been amazing to see everybody's! (Also slightly less of the feeling like a weirdo!) Miss Pixie's in particular was one that blew me away -- the way the music and the artwork play off one another is just gorgeous.
And g-gah! Oh, man, b-by all means! I'd love to see! (I've loved seeing how music plays with your artwork before -- "When I Got the Music" is sublime - there's such a sense of indescribable rocking going on there, with the concept and the energy and the --)
(Oh, hey, look at that, I'm rambling like a fantard.)
But. Er. Yes! Tl;dr! Cliff's notes! You draw good! Van playlists would be awesome to see! Overuse of exclamation points!
Thanks very much for looking!

(And then I go be creepy. Horrible.)

Gwah! It's such a weird feeling, isn't it? But I guess that's part of how I figure out if a character I've been trying to put together "sticks" -- if I'm listening to a Random queue and then all of a sudden am like, "oh, dude -- this song is totally them", I feel like I've got a winner, haha. XD
And thanks very much! (Playing this one and the Stoney one right next to each other is so weird, haha -- Crowley's is like "boom-pah, boom-pah, squashy happytimes" and then Stoney's is like "the time for techno asskickings is now -- TIME TO MAKE THE STREETS SAFE FOR ROCK". I seriously start like, swaggering when I listen to it. It's awesome.)

While I am not an artist, I do the same thing when playing video games, or reading a book/fanfiction.
*warning music list to follow*
For combat, I usually like either Megaman music(great for the building action), A Night on Bald Mountain by Mussorgsky (wonderful clashes and the like), and Magus Battle (theme from the video game Chrono Trigger).
For archaic things that I want a sense of extra nostalgia from, I like Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor (knew this song when young and who doesn't think of vampires or similar when hearing this).
For mystery, In the Halls of the Mountain King and Beethoven's Eroica.
Other stuff is included in all of this, such as Mozart, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Styx, Beatles, Pink Flyod, and The Who.

TheCrowchan In reply to Tacobowl8 [2008-09-27 23:12:27 +0000 UTC]
Hmmm, I don't have much Mega Man music, maybe I should look into it... but the combination of classical thunder and classic rock is definitely a powerful one!
(For some reason, 80's hair metal has the same effect on me -- Poison, Danzig, and Motley Crue get stuck in next to the sweeping choral pieces. XD Weird, huh?)
Props for the TSO, as well! (Beethoven's Last Night isn't mood music as accessible as their usual stuff, but if you're in the right mood... wow!)
Thanks for looking!

So this is the soundtrack to Miss Crowley's life, huh? Neat!
I prefer silence when I write, but sometimes I like a little background music. I'm a Beatlemaniac generally, but I'm currently going through a Wombats phase right now!
Some of my writer friends refuse to work without something plugged into their ears! I never asked them if they have specific playlist depending on what they're writing though. But I will next time I see them!

TheCrowchan In reply to TheJenjineer [2008-09-27 23:08:48 +0000 UTC]
Or part of it, at least! Haha.
Ah! I have known several folks who refuse to have anything going through their head when they are writing or drawing - some people don't like having ridiculously loud music pumped into their brains when they are driving, either, and I daresay it makes them better company than I am in an automobile. Haha. Different strokes for different folks! But the Beatles are one of those bands that can cross such barriers; they have a certain talent for not being lengthy or intrusive, but for being highly pleasant and melodic and able to help one relax, I find.
Ahaha. You may be surprised at what you find! XD Thanks for looking!

At last, I've found that someone ELSE does this!
First of all, I'm quite impressed with the lineup. I've never seen someone line up songs of which I find most recognizable. And second, I'm trying to fit music to stuff all the time! Of course whenver I've brought up where I think a song would fit to a situation on the interwebs, I either get harshly criticized by people that don't like my taste in music or I get a symphony of crickets in my face.
One particular connection of note: I have no idea if you listen to anything by My Chemical Romance, but the lyrics in the song "I'm Not Okay" fit mysteriously well with the Harry Potter series. Incidentally, My Chemical Romance always seems to be the band that gets me the harshest words. Please don't kill me if you don't like them. I'm sorry, ok?
I also like to watch tv muted with music playing to see where it syncs up. (I LOVE to watch The Wizard of Oz with Dark Side of the Moon playing.)
So no, you're not alone in the wonderful world set to soundtrack; 'tis a disease many of us suffer.
P.S. For Crowley, I usually think of the Numa Numa song, lol.

Apparently it's a common condition! Who knew? XD
And aww, haha. Thanks very much! I have... eclectic taste in music (translation: most of it's rubbish), but it's a big relief to know people can recognize stuff! I love finding new music, but it can be a little intimidating to look through people's music libraries and not recognize ANYTHING.
I've never heard that! I'll have to go give it a look... and, believe me, my taste in music is such that I don't think I've cause to give anybody heat. (I mean, come on. I listen to Nickelback!) But even bands and artists I don't tend to like - like Linkin Park, MCR, or a lot of hip-hop artists - usually have one or two songs I'll really love ("Breaking the Habit", for one - and I'm a mainstream slob who secretly loves screaming along to "Welcome to the Black Parade" when I'm a little tipsy. XP)
And at least we're not sufferin' alone! Although, with this much music floating around - who's suffering, eh?
P.S. Pfft, haha. XD I totally should have put that and the "Caramelldansen" song in here, in retrospect - I just couldn't remember who they were by!
