My Shepard. Let me show you him. Because not everybody likes to use Shemploo when playing male Shep.I suddenly remember why I don't usually draw Mass Effect art. The armor and weapons are a PAIN to do. Sigh.
Hasani is my male canon (and overall "main" canon) Shepard. He's a Paragade - about 90% Paragon, 65% Renegade in ME2.
Some basic plot highlights on him (spoilers ahead):
- Killed Finch when he tried to blackmail Shepard after his refusal to help out the 10th Street Reds.
- Spared Wrex on Virmire by talking him down.
- He romanced Ashley in ME1 and stayed loyal to her in ME2 (Yes, I know she's an unpopular character, especially now. Please spare me any smart ass comments. I don't care if you like her or hate her, but I'm tired of seeing fandom fights over her and other LIs).
- Sacrificed the Council in ME1 to focus on Sovereign
- Saved Feros colonists.
- Kept Tali from exile and her father's secret.
- Let Garrus have his revenge.
- Had Miranda reconnect with her sister.
- Had everyone loyal and survive the suicide mission, including crew.
- Destroyed the Collector Base and told the Illusive Man to shove it.

My Earthborn Shep was a paragade too! That's why I love Mass Effect - you can save kittens AND execute annoying people without having it all cancel ala KotOR.

Yeah, I'm 100% white but I always make a multi-ethnic Shepard because it's just implied in the ME world that pretty much everyone is mixed race by now. David Anderson, Zaeed Masani, and Hendel Mitra from the Ascension book are all good examples.

Indeed, I find it kind of funny fully white Shepards are so common, when the books/codex basically state it's REALLY rare to be genetically fully "white" and completely pale - unless you're using those pigment pills, I guess.
But I'll play any race in any game, not just ME. I like to mix it up, because I think all groups are worth exploring and representing. 
For instance, my Revan in KOTOR was Asian, as was my Exile in KOTOR 2 (though one was male, the other female - and the Revan looked more Filoppino and the Exile looked more Chinese); my Bhaalspawn in Baldur's Gate was a blonde-haired, grey-eyed half-elf; my Knight Commander in NWN2 was a redheaded, pale aasamar; and my main Warden in Dragon Age, a human mage, is black. To me, it's far more interesting to create different characters with varying looks than just trying to recreate what I look like or one look I find appealing. Nothing wrong with people who like doing that in games, but it's just not my thing.

Yeah, I totally agree with that. Why would you want to keep making the same or similar character in every game you play? That would get old! I'm an old school D&D pen and paper role-player: I've always played RPGs NOT to be myself. I don't think I've ever made a white, red-headed character (my real appearance) in any game I've played. You get to play yourself every day: when you play games, it's way more fun to do something you DON'T do every day, I think.

Though I have made characters with pale skin and auburn hair (like I have), they're usually male and very different from me in personality. I don't have a problem with uses elements of my traits for inspiration if it fits, but I've never all out made a character just like me. That's boring. I mean, I don't think I'm boring, but playing as myself would be, because as you said, we're ourselves everyday - why not do something different for a game?

Very impressive! I'm glad I'm not the only one who made up a certain ethnicity with my Shepards. Always fun to use one's imagination there, and it's fun to see what other people come up with. I guess the only thing is "Shepard" is an English surname...then again, since yours is an Earthborn, you could just say that name was given or...the name of a family who raised him for a while...or something.
And yes, I've really come to notice around here, there's a wide assortment of female Shepards, but with the male version people just go for the default. The model they based him on is handsome and all, but to go with the default seems so impersonal.
And I have to thank you for sticking with Ashely; I love her to bits, but most people seem to have left her for Miranda or Tali.
The armor was a lot more complicated in this game, but I think you did very well with it, and the sniper rifle looks almost perfect. Again, very nice work, and a very unique looking Shepard.

For Hasani, I say that it was given to him by the state; I figure it's likely an Earthborn Shepard was likely at an orphanage or some institution early on before they grew up on the streets - someone had to take care of them as a baby, after all. In my femShep's case, she's a mixture of mostly Indian (as in India) ethnic groups, but since England has many Indian immigrant descendants, I figured it's not hard to believe a Spacer like her has an English surname. Besides, humanity is VERY mixed by ME's time, so it's not hard to believe someone who's not "white" would have an English surname.
I agree. I never go with the "default" look in a game if you can customize it.
I like Miranda and Tali (though I'm not into alien romances, personally), but I would never have Hasani cheat on Ashley. I did make an alternate Shep to romance Miranda, but never Hasani himself.
Oh, I know - but I did NOT have the patience to draw all the armor detail. Doing the sniper rifle took long enough. xD

I agree. Besides, half the fun of RPGs like what Bioware makes are creating the characters, including the faces. I like choosing my own features.
