This is beautiful. I love the colours you used, especially in the dragon and the sky.
The dragon's form is also very pretty.

His/Her character reminds me of the dragon from Spirited Away...
I'm constantly impressed at how small a scale you can work; that little drawing has a ton of detailed stuff in it ><
I love the log/fallen tree details :3
Your commisions are expensive -_-

That's less than minimum wage '^'
I couldn't price my stuff like that because I never know how long something would take...
At least you can sell your stuff though, I don't even want to try

i'll raise my prices if i can get more exposure, plus i think I'll alter the agreement on my commission page, people who commissioned me before wont be affected. i said i wouldn't make prints of paintings with other peoples characters in them because some people are pretty possessive of their characters, but its really not worth it to me, now that I'm planning on going to conventions i need to make prints, and if i can sell enough of them i'll be making a better profit from painting whatever i want and making prints + selling the original than painting for $5 an hour with nothing on top of that.
you could sell your work if you had a bit more exposure, aside from the fact that it's quite good it's traditional, which is nice because you actually have an original to sell, instead of prints and high rez files. are you in any clubs here? they're good for exposure if you want it, exposure is at least as important as artistic skill when selling stuff, look at some of the crap on the front page. some are there because they're drawing and painting things that are popular right now, but a lot are there because they get a lot of exposure.

I also wanted to start creating prints on DA, but I would like to have a paypal account for that, which requires a checking accound I assume? I only have a savings account right now. I'd also like to see what a subscription is like to have, even if it will go to waste over the summer
I'm actually in one club. It's a fantasy creature club and was the only one I was interested at the time. I've been thinking about joining another, they just need to understand that I have limited computer access. I know what you mean by the front page -_- Some of them do produce good quality work, but a lot of the people I watch make art just as good, so why shouldn't they be on the front page? People also base things too much on content. I am more likely to look at a creature concept than a still life, but that doesn't mean I'll pass them up. Some people on the front page have also just been a round for a while and submit constantly. I also noticed that it's difficult for traditional art to get to the front page because it "doesn't look smooth"...I think I may have finally come up with a signature....

i honestly don't remember if you need a checking account, it doesn't say it has to be a checking account but i never tried to set mine up with a savings account so i don't know.
the dA prints system kinda sucks though, unless you have a premium account you're not making much of a profit at all, and premium accounts cost twenty bucks a year or something, so obviously they're only useful to those who are selling quite a bit. plus it sucks because you have limited options and you can't see the finished product.
i watch some amazing artists who really don't get the recognition they deserve, there are a lot of fairly young people on this site (and more than enough older ones) who do +fav things just because it's Naruto or Bleach or whatever no matter how badly it's been drawn. I'm the same as you, I love creatures and fantasy and generally stick to those subjects, but almost anything could appeal to me if it's different or well done.
i think a lot of digital art is TOO smooth, i like a lot of the textures and stuff you can get with traditional art, and unless they really know what they're doing a lot of it ends up looking pretty muddy and indistinct.

$20 isn't much for a year, and I'd like to try out a DA sumscription. I am saving my money though (a car is pretty much in the back and I'm currently looking into a place to live). All I could do now though is hit any convention and prepare a portfolio for an illustration internship.
I really don't add things to my favourites very often, and it's because I use them as quick links to the people I don't watch. The people I do watch though may have 2 or 3, and I usualy delete older faves and update them with their more current work so the people who actually do look at faves can see what they're capeable of.
The whole fanbase stuff cna be annoying, but I won't say I haven't faved any Naruto or D.Gray-man art, I just have very few.
What really iritates me are the new and general younger people who think everything is best done by computer just because it looks "smooth" I use to post in the myspace forums (don't ask ) and someone aclualy said they were learning to "draw" through photoshop. This worries me and makes me think that this person has never picked up a pencil to draw in their life. They probably wouldn't even know the colors to make purple '^'
I love traditional art because it feels so much more natural and because i have gained a love for paper grain. I no longer fight the grain and grinds color pencils into the pores, I just let them be a part of the drawing itself.

i'm surprised you haven't gotten a trial sub yet, i think everyone gets one eventually. i'm really going to try to go to a lot of conventions once i have enough stuff to make prints of, remember that even if you can't make it to one you can usually send your work in the mail and they'll sell it for you, if you haven't seen these yet they're a lot of help: [link] [link] [link]
some people are so used to technology making things easier, i think they like a lot of the short cuts you can take when working digitally. not that all beginning digital artists are lazy, once most of them get going they realize adding a bunch of lens flares doesn't equal instant art.

Trial sub...?
ok, my account is one year old and I still don't understand half of what's on this website. It was just last week that I found out about the "random Deviant" button -_-
A lot of people also use the excuse "I can't draw" which makes me wonder how they got anywhere in life, just because they couldn't do something at first. Art is like anything else....you practice, you get better.
A lot of digital art also seems a bit impersonal to me...I can easily recognize peoples' styles in traditional art, but digital art is a lot harder for me. Maybe it's just me though -_-

sorry for responding to another old comment so late, i'm terrible.
if you haven't found out already, dA likes to give people trial subs for free (they either last one or three months, i forget) to introduce people to the features they offer and hopefully entice them to buy them later.
but i agree about the people who say they can't draw, like you said, it's the same as any other talent. you have to practice, critique yourself, force yourself to improve. i hate to take comments badly but i always hated it when people would tell me im gifted or lucky for being a decent artist. obviously they mean it as a compliment, but it makes it sound like i haven't been busting my ass trying to improve all these years trying to get to where i am now, and hopefully continue to get better.
