Gift for a friend who enjoys monstery things and succulents. The plants are some sort of Lithops (brown eggy things on the left) and Fenestraria, AKA "baby toes" (more like alien eyeballs, they sure don't look much like toes to me), not an uncommon houseplant, I used my own rather gangly specimen as a reference.
Watercolor, acrylic, grey copic fine liner.
Roughly 9" x 11", maybe 11 hours?

Such lovely markings and wings! And that third eye is so cool without looking out of place! Nicely done!

Wow, this looks fantastic! I love the colour combination on the creature and the partly white outlines, looks very harmonic. It's amazing how much effort you put into the background, I like the soft greens and succulent plants

Not for this painting, although I would have liked to. The paper (stonehenge brand) does not hold up well to masking fluid at all, last time I used it, I was very gentle but I still tore the surface a bit.
I use it if I paint with less delicate papers, though

No worries! I use regular watercolors, I never got the hang of working with gouache.

I love the background details, like the wooden stump. It's elegantly done without pulling too much attention away from the main focus.
Here's a video of an adorable person calling lithops "little elf bums":

Now when ever I see them I smile and quietly whisper "bums" to myself. Just thought I'd share the madness.

Haha! He sounds so deadpan when he's talking about little elf butts. I always thought they looked like butts, but now I'm imagining little elves hiding in the dirt with just their butts uncovered.
This is why we never see elves. This is how they hide.
