Description So this is a fan comic of a little game on the Sony Playstation called Β 'Digimon World'. In case the comic is a little unclear, lemme try to break down what I meant to say with this...

So you're this boy who's summoned to the digital world by Jijimon. You end up in a small town, and are greeted by a small group of Digimon. Here you meet your very first partner, which can be either Agumon or Gabumon, and together you set out in the digital world in order to find the other townsfolk, who by some freak event, became feral and left the town.

What I tried to get across with this comic is the emotional journey you go through as a player in Digimon World. Here's the thing: Your Digimon partner WILL die. There's no way to prevent this, even if you take really good care of it, your Digimon will still pass away eventually due to old age.

This instantly sets this game apart from the other games in the Digimon series, because if you die in, like, Digimon World 3 or something, you get a game over and you restart at your last save. In the original Digimon World, when your Digimon die, you DON'T get a game over. The Digimon you raised to a full-grown adult, is now reborn as a baby Digimon. And you, the boy, have no choice but to continue your quest to restore the balance in the digital world with your new friend, and the memories of your partner before.

Oh snap.

The game isn't like "Well, you screwed up, but don't worry, I'll whisk you back to the point where you didn't!" no, it doesn't hold your hand like that, it makes you deal with these facts that nothing lasts forever, and eventually you're going to have to let go. You actually feel this emotional attachment to your partner on your journey, and that's something not many games can manage to do...

Digimon World... it got a mixed to poor reception from the critics, but it's really something special.

Given the amount of stupid reviews it got, either by people calling it a rip-off of Pokemon, or by stupid Adventure Fans who thought that it was based on that series, the reception is no surprise...

Huh... I never played (or even watched) digimon. I'll have to buy it at some point.

You never watched Digimon? Tsk tsk. That's a lack education.

Well, don't worry, it's not all it's cracked up to be. I'd say, check it out, it's all on YouTube. Just know that it's a children's show from the 90s, so a lot of the humour feels lame and forced now, but it's action-packed as f**k, and watching giant monsters throw down is awesome. You should give the anime a try. This game is a really complicated and hardcore creature raiser, though. It's rreally hard, but rewarding.

I've seen only a few episodes of it but that's really it Β
I will need to try it out though- the LoZ games piss me off and they're so frustrating so I imagine it will be like that difficulty level, perhaps?

No, the main difficulty in Digimon World is how complicated it is to raise your partner Digimon. It's EXTREMELY stat-based, and some stats contradict another so you need to find a balance in both in order to do well.

I'll give an example:
There's a Happiness metre and a Discipline metre. You fill your Happiness metre by giving you partner compliments. This makes your Digimon partner live longer, but it'll also make it spoiled, so it doesn't listen very well to your orders in battle. You fill your Discipline metre by scolding your Digimon partner for misbehaviour, and by battling other Digimon. This will make it listen to your orders better, but by being less happy, the Digimon will pass away earlier. The best possible solution for this, is to find a good balance between happiness and discipline.Β This is already really cool, because it makes sense.Β

Anyway, this is just one of the many things you have to consider when raising your Digimon, which makes it a very complicated game. Raising your Digimon to be strong is difficult, and so it is difficult to progress through the game. But that doesn't mean it's Game Over for you. You'll start back at the town where you started the game, but you'll still have all the progress you've made to that point where your beloved partner passed away, and with a new Digimon partner to raise from a baby to an Ultimate.

Awww man, then you missed out ^^'
Digimon World was like a REALLY hard and complicated game but beating it was really satisfying. Or at least, making progress. Because I never beat it yet. ^^'
