Eeeeeh, I think it's more like a Blend of what you Expected and what you GOT. You can't ignore her general strictness with Weiss till the Business, portion of their meeting was concluded before she asked how she was and got all sweet. Nor can you ignore that fight with Qrow.
Speaking of He looks, Fabulous in your style. It's like he was made for it.

Actually, I can kind of overlook the strictness part, since if you remember, she only did that right up until she sent her escort away.
...in other words she only maintains that strict, cold image in front of her co-workers/subordinates/anyone who could believably spread word of her real behavior towards Weiss and therefore displaying a sign of weakness. Which by extension would place Weiss in danger, kind of, if it was known how much Winter cared for her. So honestly, the business side of things could justifiably be nothing more than a professional front.
Which Weiss probably knows which is why she didn't seem too hurt by it.
Also I'm not ignoring the fight with Qrow, she was great there too. A real spitfire, surprisingly, which was both refreshing and new, considering what everyone was expecting, i.e. cold, calculating and smug.

Qrow is new best RWBY.
After two admittedly pretty underwhelming first two episodes, Episode 3 was actually pretty damn good.
Now we just need to see Neo in action again and I'll be complete.

It was incredible, yes!
You know I love that kind of dynamic camera angle, and this fight was FULL of them. Exploding courtyards, THE SOUND OF THAT GREATSWORD'S ENGINE/GEARS WHATEVER OH GOD, just it was all so amazing

I have to admit that the first impression of Winter was actually a little negative for me, because on one hand she basically insulted Weiss on her performance and it implied that she uses her authority position to put Weiss down, but on the other hand she showed that she cares for her, asking about her health and training. She seems the kind of person that wants to care, to be nice, but has no idea on how to do it properly, like an ice queen (haha). She asking Weiss about her status was like doing a checklist of something, I mean, she seems to only see things in a logical and systematical way (I guess that's why she asked about Weiss condition right after basically insulting her, she realized she needed to balance things). Well, I guess it's better to wait for more developments.
And Qrow, I want to see him and Demoman blasting things and chilling out, haha.
