The Destroyer Fungus...
Entomophthora Muscae
Read about this real life enslaving fungus. It's some pretty terrifying stuff, and it creates ZOMBIES in nature, particularly amongst the insect kingdom.
You can read all about it in the Nature Zombies section, real life stuff, non-fiction research... which makes it all the more terrifying. Especially if you consider what would happen when, not IF, WHEN the Entomophthora Muscae evolves to to be able to enslave (zombify) mammals?!?

A fungal zombie would probably be like the zombies from Return of the Living Dead. Since the fungus controls it, it doesn't need any of its organs, not even its brain. The whole body is just a vehicle. The only way to destroy it is with fire. Even blasting it apart with an explosive would only turn it into mutiple chunks that would continue to crawl after you like John Carpenter's The Thing!

I checked out some of your games, looks like you've got quite a bunch of stuff going on, looks fun! Looks like you like to keep busy with these sort of projects, and I can definitely appreciate that.
Speaking of games - We we're in the process of making a MUD based game, with a graphical interface - I can tell you a bit more about that later (to keep in the tradition of not giving people ideas lol).

The fungus thing, for me at least, started out as thinking "Why do you never see zombies with mushrooms on 'em?" - then it was a short jump to "What if a fungus caused it? Ah, there's a real fungus that does that! Splendid."
I do have a ton of things going on at all times. Like a shark that can't stop swimming or it'll die. Or, since that's not actually true about sharks, it at least *thinks* it will die.
Would love to hear about the game, and can't wait to hear back on the note.

I really got a kick out of doing the flesh tones, and you know, if I can manage to gross myself out a little bit with something I'm painting, it feels gooooOood... cause it must mean I'm doin' SOMETHING right.
