Actually, at least according to the nineties cartoon canon, Eddie Brock was a gym nut! So it's totally canon he pumped iron like a madman.

I know of that. After he lost his job he picked up bodybuilding to release some stress. He was naturally quite built. Though, I like to imagine that the symbiote rapidly accelerated the growth.
