Description Ugh....I can't tell you how many people don't enjoy this movie.
Lemme guess this is going to get like 3000 veiws in a day huh

True I am a bit of a fangirl. I do have my own characters and club to help spread awareness of actually plausable and enjoyable characters.
I acknowledge it and I try to be subtle about it. I don't rant or rage about pairings/characters/other....(?)

Anywho please enjoy this.

Not really. 8[

I am a master at watching movies that make you think. That give you perspective and try to wrap your hands around the subject. Plot holes have you doing, really, the wrong kind of thinking.

Either way..it was a good movie. It had potential.

I thought the animation was excellent. The post apocalyptic feeling was spot-on, and as a visual piece it was a solid movie. The story had its head stuck up its own ass, however.

It was sort-of pandering to the Tim Burton fangirls and boys. The story was that stereotypical, "Man vs. Machine" conflict that Tim Burton and the rest of the film makers inspired by his "legendary direction and writing". Nothing really new about it, in terms of writing or things of interest.

It just came across as far too simplistic for my taste. Almost to the point of being childish (save that the subject matter was far from child-friendly). Poor Elijah Woods would couldn't walk ten paces without bumping his head off of jarring amounts of symbolism (all of which being critical of modern society, a really tiresome convention that's been overused in the past decade.)

I don't know, this opinion is completely subjective, so take from it what you will.

And why did Tim Burton put his name on the label anyway? The orignal idea came from Shane Acker. And the Russian guy helped animate and direct it more than Burton did anywho.

JakeDDrake In reply to TheDemonDM22 [2010-07-17 17:55:32 +0000 UTC]

It's because Tim Burton produced/directed it (I can't remember precisely which)

Given that he's considered a hollywood god, they stuck his name on every poster for 9, in the hopes that it would attract more of an audience than had they just called it "Shane Acker's 9"

It's the very same reason why they kept pushing Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter in "Alice in Wonderland", even though he was technically a side character. It's because they know that the Hot Topic Crowd would flock to the movie, provided it had either Tim Burton or Johnny Depp.

(It's also the same reason why movie trailers will say "From the makers/director/writer/producer of ______" before a movie.)

In other words: It was a sales and marketing decision, nothing more.

I'm aware of the origins of the movie, in that it was originally a short film done by Acker, and was met with a fair amount of acclaim (probably because the film art community is, in itself, a crab-in-the-bucket effect. As soon as one goes big, they all seek to drag him down with criticism)

So yeah, tl;dr Tim Burton's name was slapped on the posters to increase sales.

Well thank you for your opinion.
I do know its a bit cliched but i think what brought me into it was how amazing it looked and how much potential it could have had. It relly upsets me that they didn't go further into the story.
but it was dark. I really wish Elijah wood would've not been chosen as the main character's voiceactor. =w= i really hate his voice. Everyone else had wonderful voice actor (ie I love Jennifer Connely. She's not really in many films lately... )
The music also brought me in as well.
There are tons of mixed views on this movie. I for one enjoyed it and have made many friends through joining the fandom.

JakeDDrake In reply to TheDemonDM22 [2010-07-17 18:14:21 +0000 UTC]

Elijah perhaps wasn't the best choice for the role, but given the nature of the character, it was at least suitable. 9 Came off to me as an inexperienced and fairly shy character. Given his role as Frodo Baggins (an initially shy, inexperienced hobbit), I can see why the casting made that decision. His voice isn't a strong one, but it's

You're very right though. The movie had a great amount of potential. It could've been far better than it was, provided they had avoided some of the pitfalls that I mentioned in my original post. The animation was great and the story could possibly have been as well.

I loved this movie! My friend and I went to go see it in theaters the day it came out. About halfway through I was struck by all the underlying messages and themes within the movie. I began to wonder how many people realized that the movie is bashing the church. HARD.

PuppetofDreams In reply to TheDemonDM22 [2010-07-19 00:33:56 +0000 UTC]

Well I may have exaggerated in my first post, but the movie definately incorporated the theme of Religion(specifically Christianity) vs. Science. I'd have to watch the movie again for specific details, but certain things like how 1 pretty much looked like the Pope and hid out in a church, how 1 disliked the idea of change, how 7 hid out in a library, etc. There were other details but, like I said, I'd have to watch it again.
