Description

The Vermrat is an aeroxirid commonly found within the caves of Subterra, usually seen hunting down smaller organisms. Its appearance is incredibly similar to a bat, as the vermrat has a somewhat similar niche to a medium sized chiropteran. Its large size doesn't allow it to fly through the tighter areas of the Subterran cavern system, so it is found in the more open areas. It's large eyes allow for it to just barely see, as the caves are dimly lit by bioluminescent psuedoplants. The downy fur on the vermrat is commonly believed to be used for warmth, while the larger, more keratinized spikes on the tail is speculated to be used for fighting for mates.
