Archimedes issue #3

We start with Kirby flying through the air, just enjoying the day when he suddenly hears an alarm in the distance and rushes to check it out. He arrives on the scene of a twelve car pile-up with the citizenry running and screaming in all directions. While trying to survey the scene, a car came flying from out of nowhere and nearly crushed him. Turning to find the source, Kirby finds himself facing off against a cyborg who identifies himself as Ten Count. The villain reveals that he was ordered by his master to bring Archimedes in, but, since he’s never gotten a chance to fight a superhero before, Ten Count wants to see what he’s made of.

They fight, with his jet-pack, Kirby manages to keep a speed and height advantage, but Ten Count’s cyborg kit includes a mobility booster (a series of minor jets that rapidly move him out of harm’s way whenever the cameras in his helmet detect an incoming attack). With some ingenuity (Kirby wraps one of his mechanical bolos around Ten Count’s head, blocking off the cameras) Archimedes manages to gain the upper hand, but then Ten Count activates his trump-card and sends himself shooting across the battlefield. Kirby avoids the attack, but it sends a stack of cars flying through the air and nearly killing a group of bystanders. Kirby sees it in time and saves them, but his jet-pack takes a hit and, while he’s trying to recover, Ten Count bum rushes him.

Tackling him to the ground, Ten Count proceeds to savagely beat him, and, between the pain, the crackle of his mask starting to shatter, he hears his mothers voice, screaming at him, calling him worthless, he feels her fist cracking his jaw. The jet-pack reignites and he uses it to escape, not just the mount, but the entire fight, he flies straight into the air and disappears as Ten Count continues to heckle and mock him. Eventually, the Cops begin to press forward and try to arrest him. It does not go well, he brutalizes the cops, beating them mercilessly as he makes his escape.

Kirby’s jet-pack gives out again as he makes it home, cracking hard against the helipad and dislocating his shoulder. He barely seems to notice and wanders into his room, shedding the ruined piece of his costume as he goes, then he crawls under his blankets and starts to weep.
