Description
Bulletstorm 2 – Level 1
We join up with Grey and Trishka having spent nearly a month in an escape pod designed only to sustain its occupants for about a week. After rationing themselves to near starvation, Grey is watching the radar and toying with a gun, weighing his options, when they are Finally picked up by a passing ship. The ‘Intrepid’ is a long distance carrier ship, essentially the equivalent of a space tow-truck that’s hauling manure from planet to planet. After giving them a bit to eat and allowing the pair to use their shower, they explain their destination to be a UPC controlled planet (Aurellia) leaving Grey and Trishka to consider mutiny to redirect the ship so that they don’t get killed.
They put the choice off, considering how they’re both still suffering from malnutrition and need some time to recover, and are ultimately spared when the ship is accosted by a crew of pirates. The pirates, led by a man named Shecky, are known to Grey, from his own days as a pirate, but bare him no friendship. So, they hide in the manure storage containers of the Intrepid, but find them, mostly empty. While two containers are filled with dung, the other three are empty, save for boxes filled with drugs. This is why Shecky targeted the Intrepid, is was a power move on his part to screw with a competing drug-runner, but, after finding evidence that Grey and Trishka were on the ship, he tortures the Father and Son due who had been running it (Chip and Chuck), trying to locate the soldiers to claim their bounty.
Grey and Trishka fight their way through the ship and into the Pirate ship’s command deck. They kill the entire crew and manage to rescue Chuck, though his father has already been killed. After a boss battle against a war-bot, they manage to subdue Shecky and use him for to gain some information on what’s been going on while they were away. After learning everything they need to know, they commandeer Shecky’s ship and allow Chuck to take his revenge.
Chuck decides to stay on with the pair, agreeing to act as their front man, using his money and connections, and going into more populous areas to obtain weapons and supplies for them. Meanwhile Grey and Trishka decide to head for an outer-rim planet that has a cybernetics doctor who can back-hack and jailbreak the UPC equipment they will need to use in order to take the fight to Serano, without him using it to track them or just shutting it down mid-fight.
Author’s note: The weapon on display is a V.A.D. (Valor and Demise) L.I. (Low Impact) pistol, also known as the ‘Last Meal’. It has a composite frame and uses a minimal compressed gas system to allow it to fire in low oxygen environments. While not a military grade side-arm it is one that the UPC orders for most of its escape pods. Not because it is overly useful in self-defense, but because the standard model has a maximum capacity of five bullets, and the escape pods have a maximum capacity of five people.
The attachment is a modified sprayer used by smugglers and scavengers to apply a highly corrosive acid to bulkheads and doors. Put the two together and you get acid bullets that eat through body armor and defenses (one shot causes armor to take double damage, and two shots dissolve armor completely).
