Description It's been a hot minute since I've posted anything, BUT I'm hopeful that I'll be doing some more art soon. I've got some fun ideas in mind

Starting off with a ref in which I hope is the first of many, we've got none other than the man himself, Alphonse Abadie. I first made Al in April of 2022 on one boring day at work. The first ever sketch of him can be found here: www.deviantart.com/thedinopop/…
Boy howdy has my style changed lol

Name: Alphonse Abadie (pronounced Al-Fon-Say Ab-Ah-Dee)
    - I am very much aware that the name Alphonse is not pronounced like so. But last year when I was picking out names, my square brain was confident that I knew the pronunciation. Spoiler Alert: I didn't B) I'm not even gonna make an excuse on this, I just fully didn't know until it was too late. Buuut I'm sticking with it lol
Age: 35
Height: 6'7'
    - WAAAAAAY taller than most ponies. The average sized stallion would be lucky to come up to his chest

Personality: Sweet and kind-hearted. Smart, studious, and VERY determined. However, he can sometimes be impatient and can be driven by his emotions, which has landed him in trouble before. Likes to spread the teachings of Voodoo. Very proud of his occupation as a fortune-teller and Shadowtalker. Despite a mostly calm personality, has a love for adventure and is one of Addison's best friends.

Likes:
Peace, quiet, kindness. Respect for the dead. Books. Moonshine. Jazz. His family, friends, and darling wife

Dislikes:
Disrespecting the dead. Rudeness. Rushing ahead. The dark arts. Voodoo being presented as evil.

BACKSTORY:

Aline LaMahieu was simply looking for a job. She had grown up poor in the New Horseleans swamps, and now with her father having just passed, she needed a job and she needed one fast. And so she found work as a maid in a rich baron's estate. It was boring, long work, but it kept food on the table. She never even met the baron; not until they came face-to-face. He commented on how pretty she was, and how it was a shame that he hadn't noticed her before. Aline was surprised and flattered by his charm. She didn't think he would have ever noticed a lowly maid like her, but his interest in her seemed genuine. As the weeks went by, he continued to shower her in compliments, and Aline began to feel the first stirrings of love. And so she began to return his affections.

A few months later, Aline would figure out she was pregnant.

She came to the baron with this news, expecting her beloved to be thrilled, but instead, he did something she never expected; he laughed and turned her away. In tears, Aline begged to know why he wouldn't help her after all the love and affection he gave her. He told her that the game had been fun, but he had never been in this for anything more. In fact, he had never loved her. She was merely a way to scratch an itch. And so he fired her on the spot and had her escorted off his estate.

And then Alphonse LaMahieu was born.

Despite her situation, Aline loved him beyond words. Though he carried a lot of resemblance to his absent father, Aline adored her son more than anything. She did everything she could to support the two of them. She went without food in order to feed Alphonse. She worked constantly at odd jobs. She tried her hardest to give Alphonse a happy childhood, and to never let him know how much she was suffering. But one day, when Alphonse was nine, he noticed his mother having trouble breathing. She told him not to worry. She'd be fine within a few days.

Within a few days, Aline LaMahieu was dead, taken by swamp fever.

The young orphaned Alphonse was lost. Without his mother, he had no idea what to do, what direction to take. He couldn't read or write. He was too young for a job. There were no relatives to take him in. Distraught, he sat out on his porch one night and stared at the bayou next to his shack. Lost in thought, the young unicorn almost didn't notice the massive white gator gliding through the water. Startled, Alphonse stared at it...and it stared back. It watched him for a moment, and then began to swim further into the swamps. Al's curiosity overtook him, and he ran after the gator. Further and further into the swamplands they went until Alphonse was met with an unusual sight; a rotting old manor out in the middle of nowhere. But the house seemed...lively. Lights came from the broken, boarded-up windows. Music and laughter boomed out over a quiet bayou. The smell of food made Alphonse's stomach rumble. And so he stepped onto the porch of the manor and knocked.

It was here that Alphonse met the Abadies, a group of Voodooists living in this magical manor. The outside was rotted, but the inside could not have been more different. Beautiful, larger than what the outside presented, it was luxury like Alphonse had never seen. He was fed, doted on, and immediately taken in by Mysterie Abadie, known best as Rie. Rie and her husband, Diego, already had two children, one of which was adopted. They saw no problem with taking in another. And so Alphonse found a new family. Vedis, his new younger sister, was too young to speak yet but followed Alphonse around when she could. Rie fussed over him just as Aline had. Diego, while not the most fatherly of men, told Alphonse stories and showed him the stars and taught him how to play cards. The only outlier was Amaund, the older adopted brother. Amaund was distant a majority of the time. Sometimes, he would teach Alphonse what he had learned as an Abadie. Sometimes they played together. But most of the time, Amaund kept to himself. The rift between them would only grow as Alphonse got older and essentially better at fortune-telling.

Five years passed, and Alphonse had settled into his new life tremendously. His new parents loved him, his little sister adored him. He fit into the Abadie family perfectly. But now, Amaund would barely talk to Alphonse. In the five years that had passed, Alphonse had grown more powerful in the ways of Voodoo, and Amaund felt resentment towards him for taking his place. Furthermore was the fact that Amaund had been abused by his blood father at a young age before running away, and he felt a scorching hatred towards weakness of any kind. And what he hated most of all was being weaker than others. If he was weak, he could be hurt. He couldn't allow that. And so he began to research the dark arts in secret. And there's where he found his fatal answer. One day, Alphonse was walking with Rie around the Manor when they noticed blood on the floor. Following the trail, they found Amaund, standing over a slaughtered Abadie. Amaund's eyes were both cut out; he had sacrificed his sight in order to obtain ultimate power. And that power was in the form of a demon. Rie ordered Alphonse to stop Amaund while she tried to contain the demon. But both were too powerful. In the tussle with Amaund, Amaund ripped out a chunk of Alphonse's ear before fleeing with his new companion. Amaund would take the name of Krane, and swore to destory the Abadies, one by one.

The family was distraught. Rie could barely function after her elder son's betrayal. The whole family couldn't believe how far Amaund had gone. They hoped he would come home...but he didn't. And so years passed. Alphonse became a full-fledged Abadie at aged 18, when he underwent the Abadie ritual, sacrificing one eye and limb in order to see the spirit world and extend a "helping hoof" to the dead. And so Al set out into the world to spread the teachings of the Abadies, and to hopefully find Amaund. What he found instead was his best friend, Addison. The two became fast friends and adventured with one another, and eventually, she introduced him to her friends as well. And it was here that Alphonse met Iris.

Iris Swift immediately stole his heart. She and her twin brother, Kane, were adventurers, just like Addison. She was beautiful, smart, brave, and kind. She, in turn, was smitten with Alphonse. The two made for an odd but loving couple, and Kane and Addison were happy for them...their last friend, Comet, was not. Comet had been in love with Iris before Alphonse had even shown up, but Iris had only ever seen him like a little brother. And now, here she was with this freak. Comet's resentment would only grow after Alphonse and Iris would marry, when Alphonse was 23 and she was 22. Their marriage would last only four months.

Comet's rage clouded his mind day and night, and so he decided to take matters into his own hooves. Using a powerful artifact, known as the Gauntlet of Shadows, Comet was transformed into a dark alicorn, and for breaking his heart, he killed Iris and wounded Addison and Kane. He left Alphonse to grieve, for that was the worst pain of all. And so Alphonse lost his wife.

Now it's been 12 years. 12 long years. Alphonse, now 35, is once more travelling across Equestria, reading fortunes, helping spirits, and hunting for his brother and Comet. Though Alphonse smiles, the agony of losing Iris has never once abated. Yet his life is about to change in ways he doesn't realize. For a group of adventurers is about to step into his life, and alter his world forever.

TL;DR - Alphonse's mother died when he was aged 9. Followed a white gator, joined the Abadie Voodooists. Older brother went berserk and summoned a demon and then fled. Alphonse grew up, eventually began to wander Equestria. Met his future wife Iris. Four months after their marriage, she was killed by their "friend", Comet. Alphonse is now wandering Equestria once more, and about to join a band of misfits on their quest to save the world.
